Hope all is well
Reply to this Altibel: so pleased for you.
Lisa: thank God! We are wondering whether we will get to Sapa now.
Reply to this Has anybody applied for a visa since the Olympics ended. If so, how did it go? Have the application rules changed back to how they used to be before all the Olympics visa difficulties started.

Reply to this Anyone going to be in Yangshuo on 7-8 Sept or Guilin 9-10? We've made it to Nanning. Tho it was a rush to get out of Hanoi by train because we couldn't book tickets ahead from Saigon and we didn't know that the week we hoped to travel the college kids would be travelling from Vietnam to China. We've ended up with extra time in rural Guangxi Province, which has been fantastic anyway.
Reply to this For anyone travelling around the far East looking to China enter from South Korea - its a no-go. We just heard from the embassy in Seoul that according to the new rules, you can only get a visa from your home country, or if you have a Korean residency card (ARC card) with more than 6 months outstanding.
We, like many other foreigners teaching English here, were hoping to make a trip through China after our contract ends. No chance. The Korean travel agent we were dealing with was pretty stressed because she'd apparently sold a bunch of flight tickets to people who would now not be eligible for the visa.
I sadly agree with posters above... you may have to give China a skip and head out in search of the many other awesome places around SE Asia!
Reply to this My wife and I got single stay tourist visas, starting October 3rd, last week in Sydney with no trouble. Took three days. All it needed was a letter from the hotel where we are staying in Beijing. Having more trouble getting my Russian one than Chinese.
Reply to this Yeah you *can* get Chinese visas abroad at the moment (I got mine in Vietnam) but different embassies around the world seem to have a different set of rules, or at least a different interpretation of the rules. I was told in Cambodia I had to apply in my home country and that the situation would be the same in Vietnam, but then I got it in Vietnam! Perhaps Korea are just being a pain in the arse like Cambodia! If you are going to another country before you get to China you should be able to get a visa there I think.
I'm back home now. Sigh....
Reply to this Going for china is a big thing for all of us. There are so much to see. I think a lot of people are having trouble getting a Chinese visa at the moment. The reason you are being rejected for a visa in Vietnam, is that officially China has introduced the rule that we may not apply for a Chinese visa any more from a foreign country. However, lots of people apply for a visa in Hong Kong.

Reply to this There was a report in the Hong Kong paper, The South China Morning Post, that the visa process will return to normal now that the Olympics is over. (There was previously a lot in the Hong Kong press about visas being refused here.)
Reply to this We got a Chinese visa in 3 hours in Brisbane Australia. Heading there in 5 days.
Yehaa!
