Uruguay - 25 Days
3 Dec - 11th Dec 2004
I intended to spend Christmas in Buenos Aires but was a bit early to go straight there so I decided to visit Uruguay with a friend and take the ferry across to Argentina.
On the 3rd of Dec we took the night bus from Rosario, Argentina to Rosario, Uruguay continuing straight on in the morning to Colonia del Sacramento. Colonia was a nice enough place, cute streets and buildings so we stayed a couple of nights until heading to Montevideo for another couple of days exploring. We found nice colonial buildings and statues like most capitals have.
From Montevideo my friend went home and I went to the Benidorm/Acapulco style Punta del Este, for a few days, to enjoy all tourist facilities. Whilst here I hired a bike and cycled along to Punta Ballena to see the casapueblo, an interestingly designed house of a famous Uruguayan artist.
On the 11th I took buses to Montevideo and then to Colonia in time to catch the ferry to B.Aires, the sunset was great and we arrived, jumped in a hostel and went on the lash.

After Christmas and New Year I traveled back to Uruguay, spending a week in Montevideo going out and making friends to continue North into Brazil with. From there I spent 10 days in a wooden cabin on the beach, eating soup in the simply beautiful Cabo Polonio.
Cabo Polonio sits on the tip of a moon-sliver shaped peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, the view from the top of the lighthouse was amazing.
From Cabo Polonio we took a bus to Chuy on the border and the next day continued into Brazil.
