15-11-17 After crossing the river which forms the border between French Guiana and Suriname by long boat it was only a short drive to the capital of Paramaribo to check to our home for the next three nights the Royal Torarica Hotel.

16-11-17 In 1613 two Dutchmen built a small trading company near the Indian village of Paramaribo. This settlement at the west bank of the Suriname River and 23km from the Atlantic Ocean, was the basis for the current Paramaribo. We strolled through the Garden of Palms to the old fort Zeelandia and then walked around admiring the historic inner city with its beautiful wooden dutch colonial buildings. We then headed to the waterfront and the city markets with their African and Indian influences. We were also surprised to visit a large mosque and synogue which were coexisitng happily side by side. Late afternoon we took another boat along the Suriname river to where it merges with Commewijne River to see the Sotalia guianensis dolphins they appeared to be showing off for us playing with seagulls.

17-11-17 We headed out to the village of Lobi Lafu, the name translates to 'love and laugh', located on the Upper Suriname River in the Suriname Rainforest. Visiting one of the authentic Maroon villages we learnt about their traditional way of life and participated in cooking local food, dancing and drumming. In the evening we headed out to a open air restaurant where we had a fun night out Latin dancing with the locals.

18-11-17 An early start to drive to the airport for our flight to our next country in South America, Guyana.
