After travelling around Peru for over a week with a set schedule, it was a bit strange to wake up today without a planned itinerary. Today was my last day in Peru with Kevin continuing by himself down to Arequipa. Although I had no problems travelling with Kevin, I wanted today to just be a day by myself doing what I wanted to do. It ended up being perfect as Kevin wanted to work out at a nearby Crossfit facility. Having no interest in that, I decided to just walk around Lima. On my way out, I ran into Nin who Kevin and I had become closest with on this trip. She was on her way to the airport, flying to Buenos Aires to continue her travels around South America. There to also say goodbye to her was Wilda and Linda. After saying our goodbyes, I agreed to meet up with Wilda and Linda at their apartment rental to hang out. I walked over to the Central Park of Miraflores where I killed some time by playing with the resident stray cats that made their home in the park. From here, I made the long walk down Avenida Jose Larco to
check out the LarcoMar, an upscale shopping mall on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Walking around LarcoMar, it was just like any shopping mall in the United States. Shops such as Addidas, Banana Republic, Gap, and L'Occitane en Provence were just a few examples of the shops here along with typical American restaurants such as Chili's and Fridays. After an early lunch, I retraced my steps back up Avenida Jose Larco back to the Central Park of Miraflores to play with the resident cats. From here, I walked over to the nearby Indian Market. This was an entire block of stalls and shops selling all sorts of handicrafts and souvenirs from all over Peru. Wandering around, I was looking for things to purchase for family and friends back home. I probably purchased about 20 Peruvian beenies to take home as gifts. After a tiring morning and afternoon of walking, I made my way back to the hotel where Kevin had already return and was napping. We spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing back in the room before heading out for our final meal together in Lima. We had our last meal at El Parquetito, where we also
had our first meal of the trip. It was a bit sad knowing this was my last Peruvian meal but I was excited for Kevin as he was continuing his travels through Peru. After dinner, Kevin and I stopped by a nearby market where we picked up some snacks and beers. We made our way over to Wilda and Linda's apartment rental overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was an enjoyable evening where these wonderful 2 ladies taught us a card game called Euchre and enjoyed each other's company over some Cusquena beers. It wasn't a very late evening as I had an early flight out the next morning. Saying our goodbyes to Wilda and Linda, we made our way back to the hotel where I finally had hit me that this trip was over. It had been a great 9 days travelling around Peru with Kevin with the highlight obviously being Machu Picchu, one of the wonders of the world. Although I was bit disappointed in the age makeup of my fellow tourmates, I made the best of it and was able to meet some really good people. This was my first tour with G Adventures and would definitely use
them again in the future.
