Well with locks Lima is the capital city of Peru & is a mix of central business district, top range hotels and true slums. It is also covered in cloud almost all the time.
It is at this point that me & Jin part ways as she stayed in Huaraz to do the Santa Cruz trek & I made my way further south.
How I got there: I booked a Linea bus for S/.28 - after our trip from Trujillo to Huaraz I knew the company to be pretty comfortable & it was the cheapest bus around.
The bus left at 9:30am & arrived at the Linea Terminal Lima at just gone 6pm. You need a passport to book this bus.
*This bus only leaves on Sunday, Monday, Thursday & Friday otherwise it is night buses or Cruz del Sur also do day buses I think (Oct '15)*
From the bus terminal I got a taxi to my hostel for S/.16 - there was a set rates list in the terminal to the districts of Lima. Taxi's in Lima aren't the most regulated & mine just looked like a normal car! But at least

cats in kennedy park it did have seatbelts (unlike most in Ecuador!) & the guy had a linea pass to be inside the terminal & none of the other "taxis" waiting outside had taxi signs either so I think it's pretty standard.
Also it was an old guy so I was fairly sure I could take him if it came to it!
Where I stayed: Pariwana Hostel Miraflores S/.39 for a 10 bed dormitory with shared bathroom.
Although expensive this hostel is extremely nice. The wifi worked pretty well (especially for the amount of people in the hostel), there's a bar & restaurant, ping pong table, luggage storage & evening entertainment.
There's a really good atmosphere but you are able to sleep as well.
What I ate:
Ok so I was really bad when I got in late Monday evening & I went to Mcdonalds! I was extremely hungry after not really eating on the bus all day (they did stop but there was nothing I fancied) so after a pack of ritz & an apple for 9hrs I wanted some food in front of me in 5 minutes - S/.14.50.
Ate at a restaurant in Barranco - Pork stew with beans & rice S/.9.50 (it's under the budget section in Lonely Planet but I can't remember the name)
What I did: Using a free map from the hostel I took the recommended walk down to the beach & back.
I joined the free walking tour of downtown Lima organised by our hostel - it cost S/.5 for a return bus ticket to & from the city.
After I headed to Barranco district with a guy from my hostel called Rene, looked around & got something to eat. We visited a well which has got a lot of locks on the bucket chain which we assumed was done by couples to signify eternal / locked in love,
I then planned my trip further south & decided to leave early the Wed morning (having arrived Monday night) I felt this was long enough to spend in Lima as I'd seen the old district & 2 of the nicest districts in the city.. unless you want to do shopping there's not much else to do there really.

War memorial way out of Lima the next morning we were witness to a Special event! ..... Rain!
Yay it was like being back out home in winter drizzle but apparently as Lima is in the middle of the desert it's annual rainfall is very low & what we were having was a lot.
We also stopped at a lookout to get a view of the whole city (there is a Christ statue) unfortunately due to the rain it was very cloudy & a bit hard to see. There is also a war memorial which is dedicated to the unnamed soldiers (& officers) who fought in the war against Chile.
