1: Pimentel 154 secs
We felt Chiclayo had somewhat of a European feel to it apart from the fact that people were really staring at us wherever we went.
The main thing we did here was to visit the famous market, Mercado Modelo and its Witch Market section. The market itself was pretty noisy, lots of things happening all over the place. It took us a while to find the Witch section, but we managed to get there in the end. Here Brujos/Shamans (witch doctors) sell all kinds of things such as hallucinogenic beverages of the San Pedro Cactus, aromatic herbs, amulets etc. They were also selling all kinds of herbs and remedies for different health conditions and Voodoo dolls, Buddhas etc etc. Most things that we picked up seemed to be for "suerte" which means luck. At least that was the answer they kept giving us when we asked. You could do different rituals to help you with various aspects of life such as love, money, health etc. We chose to do a general ritual for suerte, which involved the Shaman spitting some weird drink on us. Although it was interesting, we were not convinced. You never know though... If the Shaman is right, we now have 10 years of good luck and protection from evil.
We also went to Pimentel which is on the beach just outside Chiclayo City. We stayed at a place called Katuwira which looked interesting and we liked the idea of sleeping in a pyramid. It could have been great, but unfortunately nothing worked. No water, no electricity... And at 7:30 in the morning the staff decided to knock on our door very persistently until Kiki finally went downstairs and opened the door. Turns out they wanted to give us free breakfast, which they brought on a tray. This was sweet, but it was so early, so early. After about half an hour when Kiki was finally comfortably back in bed, they knocked again. We decided to ignore them as it must have been very clear to them when Kiki previously opened the door that we were sleeping. But the silly girl kept knocking and knocking and would not give up. Kiki went downstairs again and this time the girl wanted us to sign in and maybe write something down in their guest book. Kiki said we will do it later as we are trying to sleep. It was

all very strange. We have never been to a hotel where the staff go and wake up the guests just like that. Hotels are for sleeping which is why we decided not to stay another night, and to head to Trujillo instead.
