On the way to Chiclayo
Enjoying the clean, coastal air Chiclayo
Chiclayo is said to be a city filled with historic sites and good people. It's a popular city due to the fact it has amazing sites and it's right on the Pan-American highway on the west coast. We arrived at night and were greeted by a very feo cab driver. His name was Hebert and was nice enough to help us with all of our stuff into his cab. While we were driving to a new hostel he recommended, he was telling us all about the great things in Chiclayo. He offered to show us everything (for a price of course). But when you divided up the cost between the 4 of us, it ended up to be $10 each. A wicked price for a personal chauffer! He dropped us off at the Tumbes hostel which was only 6 months old and was very nice. It had door men and free internet! He mentioned that he would be back at 9am the next morning to pick us up so we had dinner and crashed for the night.
We woke up around 9:15am and feo was already waiting for us. He recommended a good and cheap place to eat
breakfast so we headed out thinking that his ideas had been good so far. We ended up at this womans house who couldn’t understand a word we said…even though we were speaking Spanish hahaha. She messed up our orders, brought things we didn’t want and was more eccentric than Woody Allen. After we were done, we tried to pay and get the hell out of there but she started pulling out ponchos and hats and shit and getting us to wear them. I thought I was dreaming due to the level of weirdness but nope…this was happening. We got a few funny pics out of it though. Once she let us leave, we met Hebert back at the hostel which was near by. By now it was like 10:30am haha.
The first stop was the Sipan museum and was a mission to get to. You’d think that they’d keep the tourist attractions near by for convenience sake. I’ve never been a big fan of museums and this was no exception. The only cool part of this place was this guy that was walking around in an Incan kings threads. He told us to walk around and enjoy the museum
and that he would do a show for us when were finished. I practically ran through the place to get it over with and to see this show. It turned out to be really funny. But he wasn’t trying to make it funny. He just looked ridiculous in his outfit, yelling in Spanish and everything. I was having one of those moments where you’re trying not to laugh…and the fact that you can’t makes you want to laugh more, until you let out this loud puff of air from your nose..like an exhaled snort haha. So once he was finished we got some pics, dropped a tip and got the kuff out of there.
Feo took us to this ruins site where there were these Tumbes pyramids. But before we got there we stopped at this little house on the way. Turns out the lady that lived there had a small farm in the back with chickens, hens, and ducks. She said “Algo ustedes quieren” (Anything you want) hahaha. We got to pick our lunch!! So we saw this fat little chicken and said “Eso es” haha. She told us that it would be ready in an hour and
Chiclayo
Trying to keep myself occupied and interested at the boring ass museum a half and to come back. So we hit the ruins with anticipation of our lunch later in the day!
It was hot so I dropped my shirt and headed to the site. We had to do some climbing to a couple look out points. I was ahead of everyone so once I got to the top point I decided to go higher. I don’t think that you’re supposed to but I really didn’t care. I saw this peak and started towards it. Geoff joined me. Once we got to the top the view was tight. We could see as far as possible…and the people looked like ants because we were so high. We got our pictures and began our descent back down to pick up our LUNCH haha.
It looked fresh! It was aight but it tasted too “earthy.” I don’t think she had a spice rack. Once we finished we headed to the next museum. I made feo promise me that it was the last museum. I don’t have a lot to say about it cause it was weak.
We got back around 7pm and chilled out for a bit. Hebert said he had a
The Sican Museum
Outside the museum (probably the most interesting thing there) was all these mirrors...makes for a good pic cool place to chill and have a drink with some live entertainment so Miguel and I went with him. I think he was happy to have company. We had a good time and got back in time to hit up this WICKED food spot called Don Carlos Chicken. MAN was that good chicken! I could open a chain in Canada and make millions.
The next day was pretty chill. We just relaxed and hit up this HUGE market in town. It was like 10 blocks by 10 blocks and you could buy anything you could think of. We didn’t really need or want anything, we just wanted to check it out.
The next day we went to Cajamarca (my next blog), then came back to Chiclayo 4 days and got into a new hostel. They recommended that we try this restaurant called Hebron. It was a cool set up with free wi-fi so our laptop was active for the first time in a month! We just sat there, ordered drinks and tried to download music…which doesn’t work down here for some reason so we’re hurtin’ for new music!
I met this cool girl named Luciana that worked
there. It was her 19th birthday and she was going out with a bunch of friends that night and invited us. We chilled the rest of the day and met up with everybody later that night. We had a good time but the drinks were PRICEY..so I nursed my Cuba Libre haha. In the mean time I was on the dance floor practicing my salsa. It’s getting easier to do but it’s a lot of hip-moving which I don’t normally do. It takes CONCENTRATION and FOCUS! Lol.
The next day we got our tickets and left. Chiclayo is my favorite city of Peru to date. It has good people, good sites and an overall good atmosphere. Just don’t eat the chicken from that ladies farm.
I also want to say how cool it is to have you read this. It’ll be cool to return home and talk about my stories with you rather than tell them to you. I don’t know if it’s boring or not haha but it’s fun to write. Remember if you leave me a comment I will be responding to it so check back within a couple days. Miss y’all (well most of y’all
