Not sure what this place is, but it had Hebrew, so we took a picture.
The trip that had a rough start is going very well!

When we last wrote, we had wandered around for a few hours in Cusco and were resting up a bit. Saturday night, we wanted to try some of the local food, so we went to a place called Pachapapa. We had outdoor seating, so we could hear the festivities going on outside while having a nice, relaxed dinner (with gas heaters). Dan decided to order almost everything on the menu. Well, that might be stretching it a bit. He had some sort of chicken soup that we pretty good, plus he ordered Chicarrones. They are the devil. We must never eat them again. If we do, I fear I may never stop. They are basically crackling pork, or the outside parts of sort of fatty (not in a bad way) pork cooked all crisp and yummy. I am going to do my best to stay away from them. We each ordered an Alpaca dish as well. Dan's was grilled, I think, and had a light sauce along with various tubers, some stuffed corn thingy and a stuffed pepper. I had a stew cooked in a clay oven that had

some jerky in addition to stew meat, plus some plantains and tubers.

We started out on Sunday morning wandering around Cusco again. The parades and festivities continued today, so it was pretty much wall-to-wall people. On the way to meet up with our group for the city tour, we stopped at Paddy's Irish pub for a quick lunch. It is the highest Irish-owned pub in the world, I believe.

Our tour started around 2pm, and lasted for just over 4 hours. We walked around the Temple of the Sun with an English speaking guide in addition to a few cathedrals. Then we moved on to Sacsayhuaman (pronunciation very similar to Sexy Woman), which is where Inti Raymi will be held on Wednesday. It's an old walled complex near the city. The stonework is incredible. We went to a few other sites as well, but the names are escaping me as I am getting quite sleepy.

We stopped after the tour for an early dinner at a place on the Plaza de Armas called Limo. We found it yesterday and confirmed with the lady who booked all our tours today that it was good. And oh my dear

god, was it ever. We had a tropical ceviche dish with papaya, passion fruit, mango, tuna and cilantro in addition to 4 sushi rolls. If you ever are there and like ceviche or sushi, go for it. It's a major thumbs up from both of us.

Tomorrow is the Sacred Valley tour. We've been told we may want to wear shorts. It's winter here...

He got cold (neglected to bring a sweatshirt) so he bought some stuff while we were out. Isn't he cute?

The Hebrew says: "Bayt Chabad". Dan, from your Hebrew school days, you may remember that "bayt" is the possessive of Bayit, which means "house," hence: House of Chabad. Trip sounds great -- have a wonderful time - it was so nice to hear from you! - Love you guys - Mom/Leslie (I answer to anything).

stuff about Chabad in Peru
Here's a good link to a travel blog by a Jewish guy visiting Cusco - who tells a little about this shul - Bayt Chabad. At the end of the article/blog, there's a link to Jewish history in Peru. I'm going to check it out but will let you all pick up the link yourselves if you're interested. Here's the travel blog: http://talesofawanderingjew.blogspot.com/2008/03/cusco-navel-of-world.html

I checked out the link that guy provided - The Virtual Jewish Library. It wasn't very good. I did find a more interesting piece, though. You may enjoy it. If not, just ignore: http://lubavitch.com/news/article/2024366/Lost-in-The-Andes-Found-by-Chabad.html
