MACHU PICCHU!! WOW!!! Left Aguas Calientes 6.20a.m. arrived at the entrance to Machu Picchu around 6.50a.m. which was just perfect. This place is unbelievable. When you see postcards sometimes when you get there it is a led down, exactly the opposite here, Machu Picchu is much more grander and spectacular than any postcard can ever show, you can see why people spend the whole day here. It is an exceptional and amazing place and not surprising it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World. We had a fantastic guide, Willi, who knew so much about the area. We walked up so many steps and along trails out of the Macchu Picchu area that we now need knee replacements !!! Alison who is with us couldn’t do all the areas it was too tough for her but she doesn’t walk much really so we met her back on the trail where she listened to her music under a tree. The weather has just been superb, cool, but very sunny days and it was quite hot when we left Machu Picchu around 12.00noon, glad we went early in the morning. There are a lot of trails
to do around here, the main mountain behind Macchu Picchu which you see in the traditional photo, you can also walk that to the top but it takes a really fit person 1 hr each way and the last bit is just about straight up and they only let about 400 people into this part each day. Took so many photos will have to edit them and pick the best ones. We were very happy just looking at the people at the top of that mountain. After a hearty lunch of pizza, we went and had a well deserved massage and walk around the town. Train leaves at 6.30 back so won’t get back to Cusco until about 10.00p.m. Then up early leaving 6.30a.m. tomorrow to Puno down on the edge of lake Titicaca.
