You hear the cliche that when you are traveling to Peru, or S. America for that matter, you absolutely have to see Machu Picchu...usually when you hear all this hype, it is easy to be let down because you expected so much...Machu Picchu is no hype, no cliche, it was absolutely the most surreal, beautiful place both Teri and I have ever seen...we were blown away...everywhere you look is the most amazing visual imaginable...
So thats my little plug for MP...we got to Cusco last week sometime...time is sort of a foreign concept to us now, a definate perk of travel...Cusco is a cool place, very spanish euopean feel to it and super chill for a big city...knowing that MP is going to cost us a fortune by s. american standards, we found a sweet deal through a tour company...we bussed it from Cusco through the sacred valley to an awesome little town called Ollantaytambo, stopping at several other ruin sites along the way...We fell in love with the village of Ollantaytambo, its landscape dominated by amazing ruins, steep mountains, beautiful rivers and dry jungle...after checking out the ruins, walking through the markets, we were both
stopped dead in our tracks by what is now named Urubamba...now Teri and I are not big on purchasing stupid touristy crap, but Urubamba stared right into our souls and made us purchase it...imagine a 2 foot long carved bamboo pipe, monkey skull in front with thebowl on top, huge goat horns, long horse hair and a jewel on its back...like i said, it was out of our hands, our wallet opened itself and we had no choice...sorry no pics cause we shipped it home...
So from Ollantaytambo, we took the train to Aguas Calientes, the base city to MP and another sweet little town...This left us the whole next day in MP...we got up super early cause it gets super crowded and thank god we did cause when we got there, there was no people and this mist covering the whole place which gave it this amazing very surreal feel...we just walked around with our mouths open the whole time cause everywhere you look is a friggin crazy visual...we hiked up right away to Waynapicchu to get an overview of MP...we got to the top, right about the same time that my heart popped out of my chest
and saw MP from a massively elevated view...AMAZING...the whole thing...just see the pics...
We are now in Cusco for a couple of days doing big city things like laundry and shit...soon off to Lake Titicaca to see the floating reed islands of Uros and then on into Bolivia which we are both very excited for...
Went for dinner last night...when you travel you expect these amazing exotic foods, let me tell you, Peru menus are all the same and to tell you the truth, it aint that good, just ask my bowels...so we wanted something different, no more of the safe pizza...lets try the local delicacy we say...so we order it...oven roasted guinea pig...the whole dam animal on our plates, little eyes, little ears, little tiny feet...with some hesitation, we dug in...and no it did not taste at all like chicken...more like a black pepper black licorice mix, not bad...however, the little rodent did not feel at home in Teris stomach and removed itself within a couple of hours and she is pretty sick...but she has her medicine...if anyone knows Teri, they are familiar with her addiction to smut magazines about that Hollywood shit...well there is a whole
channel dedicated to it here, 24-7...its her medicine...we expect many more troubled stomachs entering Bolivia...but all in all, everything is great...
We miss you all, write when you get a chance, love hearing from you...

Wow!!
My stomach did a flip when I saw the picture of Shane sitting on the stairs above what looks like a huge drop - I'm not big on heights so you'd never catch me sitting there. The pics are amazing and I can't believe you ate a guinea pig - you are brave soles- truly adventurous! Can't wait to see your pipe! Looking forward to your next update - give your bowels a break once in awhile!
