Undoubtedly the greatest challenge I’ve taken on in my life I’ll clarify a couple things here before beginning. First, I am writing entirely of my own experience in this blog, as my Dreamchaser soulmate Stan opted out of this particular adventure. Secondly, I’d like to state that, although I have done a few hikes in the past, I am not a devoted trekker. Not even close. I’ll take a bike, s... Read Full Entry

Packing lightly has never been one of my strong points. So does that make me stronger now, or just plain not smart?

Machu Picchu
Greetings to you from the Sierra madre of Guerrero, Mexico. No hiking here as there is cartel activity in the region. I so empathize with your journey to this wonderful site. For me the purpose of any hike/trek is to take photos, so people I am traveling with are always way ahead of me. And I like hikes of no more than 4 hrs/day. Abrazos para ti y Stan.

Machu Picchu
Always wonderful to hear from you Mickey, but sad to hear that you cannot hike in that part of the world because of cartel activities. This makes me all the more grateful for the freedom we experienced to wander - me especially - in solitude, chanting ( or grunting :) my way along. Yes, I can totally understand that you would be travelling as well at your own pace, enjoying your bird photography, as you have always done. On that note, I have some wonderful bird photos to share when I post our Amazon blog. Take care, safe travels, hugs to you both. 🙏

Wow!
Thank you for the compliment! We often end up amazed by the new adventures we take on, but this year’s adventures in SA took everything to a whole new level. Yes, it was definitely the year of trekking. I suspect I shall be inspired to consider the Annapurna trek again as well, after we hear about your recent adventures when we meet again next month. Our last attempt to hike Annapurna was aborted after one day as we were not adequately equipped for inclement weather. Nor had we trained for it ☺️ I now understand the importance of both proper gear and proper training ☺️ Season’s Greetings and see you in the New Year! Much love ❤️🙏

Machu Pichu
Wow! Is all I can say. What an amazing accomplishment and amazing , life changing experience you had. Always stretching yourself to learn and grow. You and Annie are an inspiration for us all. It sets a spark inside of me to experience this adventure as well . Not sure who I can recruit to join me. The scenery is spectacular. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures through your well written blog and your photos. Big hugs :)

Machu Picchu
Thank you Gail! Always love your feedback. I would definitely recommend adding Machu Picchu to your bucket list, and strongly encourage taking on one of the hikes - even a two day hike, if four is not possible. The best thing about being there was being away from the crowds, immersed in the beauty and magic of the Andes , and that experience comes during the hike. Like everything in life, the best rewards come with commitment, determination, and work. Hope you make it happen one day. You would love it.

Holy Smokes
Marcia, it is so nice to have you traveling along and cheering us on from Wisconsin! Thank you for all your kind comments! I look forward to slowing down - perhaps on our next trip when we are back in Asia - and reconnecting with my music community at MU that I miss so much. Hugs to you all 🎶❤️🙏
