Part 1- I am writing this as we take the train back to Ollytantambo to meet our driver for our last leg of the Peru trip.
We woke up early and had breakfast at the hotel. We hoped to have a swim before checking out but the natural pond and hot tubs were not quite ready so we decided to just get ready for check out and lounge around the grounds before heading to the train. The weather was sunny and bright so we walked around the hotel a bit. We saw some of their natural birds to the area - yellow and blue ones along with some hummingbirds. They hang banana peels in the trees for them to eat so they hang around, but seeing as the grounds are like a jungle inside the city, I cant imagine the wildlife would want to be any where else. The rain started shortly after we checked out- and it came down hard. This made our decision to do Machu Picchu yesterday a smart choice!
We had our last meal at the hotel - again impressed with the kids adventures in food...Lindsay tried some Bruschetta with onions, salami and cheeses, Julia had french
onion soup and I tried the 3 skewers of meat (chicken, beef and fish). Hayden and Sarah finally got their kids meal - chicken nuggest for Sarah and mini burgers for Hayden ( and the good Paleoish boy he is only ate 1/2 the bun.)
Once again we foud ourselves rushing to the train this time in the rain, but managed to grab a postcard souveneir and embarked on our 3 hour trip to our next hotel in Cusco- Casa Cartegena
Wednesday - We made it to Cusco for night fall and checked in to our hotel. Again we are the only guests so we feel like royalty. The staff are excellent and very accomodating. They welcomed us with a frozen drink and plate of food and then took our breakfast order for when we wanted to start the the next day. The rooms are huge- Hayden and Sarah have a loft on the second floor of our room and Lindsay and Julia are sharing a suite across from us. There is a small spa and jacuzzi along with internet and TV in the rooms so kids are happy.
We headed to the town plaza to see about
supper but were overwhelmed by street vendors and restaurant owners that we decided to just grab a snack and some wine and head back to the hotel for bed.
Thursday - we had a great breakfast ( of course a basket of breads, fruit, yogurt and granola, coffee, meats and cheeses and Cusco' s version of eggs benedict.) We head into town and did some shopping at local vendors ( Lindsay bought her friends a few souveneirs, Julia a hat, and Sarah a minature Lima we have called LILA) We then headed to a local cafe for lunch at Chez Maggie for some awesome thin crust pizza and Cerveza's. Kids loved the limonade they make here!
Back to the hotel for a swim and then Sean and I enjoyed a massage at the spa- mine a little too relaxing- more details when I am home 😊 and then off to bed as we have an eary morning flight to Costa Rica!!!!!
