Indians - beware!!
Left to right: Giovani, Andrea, Karina and Anna Hola mes amigos,
Hope that this finds you all well and busy at work - something I´m definitely not missing!!
One thing I am missing is agua caliente (hot water)!! No hot showers in the last two days. At the moment I feel like I´d either go into debt or maybe sell my body (joking!!) for some. What I wouldn´t give for a long hot soak in a bath with a lush bathbomb!!
Anyway - have a huge confession to make. I ratted on the youngsters today!! After another sleepless night due to them arriving back at the house at 3.30am and installing themselves in the kitchen (right next to my bedroom), a few of us had a word with Rudy (the Ayacucho CCS manager) this morning. We pointed out that the rest of the volunteers were becoming frustrated (this morning I really just felt like I wanted to go home!!) and that CCS were getting a bad reputation, as the party animals were spending most of the morning in bed and missing their placements! Rudy has promised to have a word with them, although I understand a similar discussion took place only a couple of weeks ago.
More Indians - beware!!
Giovani, Andrea and Karina One of the boys who was out until 3.30am was due to head off to Macchu Pichu for the four day trek this morning. Needless to say he overslept and missed the trip!! Not sure whether he´ll be able to catch up with it, but kinda feel like it serves him right!! The kitchen girls start work at 7am to prepare breakfast, which I wouldn´t mind at all if you could have a decent sleep in the hours beforehand!!
Anyway - enough of my moans. Was at Wawa Wasi this morning. When I arrived, I knocked on the door to no response. Could see through the gaps between the wall and the door that Andrea, Karina and baby Rufina were all in the garden, apparently unsupervised!! Marruja from next door came out, said that Julia was away and fiddled the door to unlock it and let me in. Didn´t think it was right that three kids had been left unsupervised (the oldest is three!!). Julia was away for a further 15 minutes. She eventually arrived back and I explained how I got inside. Had to bite my tongue yet again!!
Decided to do something with an ocean theme
Rufina the poser
Perhaps a future model in the making?? this morning as the majority of the kids have never been to the seaside. Managed to find some flat foamy stuff in bright colours yesterday in town and cut out lots of fish and other sea shapes (seaweed, boat etc). We made a cracking picture and the kids loved colouring it in. It´s now also on the wall at Wawa Wasi. Have a photo attached of it as work in progress - will need to take one of the final product too!! We wrote the kids names on each of the fish in the sea - they were delighted with it.
There was also some spare strands of fabric kicking around WW in the primary colours. I taught the kids how to make braids, and we put them around their heads so they could pretend to be Indians. It was great fun - some photos attached.
The other thing we did this morning was the playdough. They absolutely love it and it´s guaranteed to hold their attention for at least half an hour. I´ve also got them all playing "Pat-a-cake" and even baby Rufina comes up once in a while and demands a high 5!!
Karina is
Under the sea
Our sea frieze as work in progress! From the top clockwise: Julia, Karina, Elias, Ernesto, Anna, Maria, Giovani and Andrea. really coming around and I´m so delighted. I get lots of smiles and she chats away to me in Spanish, which I can just about understand!! Ernesto is also a delight to spend time with. Andrea is her usual bossy self. She always has to have the best toys and the largest share of playdough!!
We noticed this morning that Anna (the new wee girl) had a nasty cut on her face just under her lip. Julia had a look at it and noticed that it was all the way through. She must have fallen and put her teeth through her lip - ouch!! Her parents hadn´t taken her to the doctor or hospital, and there was very little either Julia or myself could do. Must have hurt when the wee thing was drinling her morning milk, but she didn´t complain once!!
The kids love to pose, and are always asking me to bring my camera. We are now up to our full compliment of 8 kids with the addition of Anna. Asked again about Alberto this morning, but all I understand is that he has gone away with his Papa! I don´t think I´ll see him again.
Seven out of eight - not bad!!
Maria was fast asleep. From the left: Ernesto, Andrea, Giovani (back step, Anna, Karina, Elias and Rufina (in front). No further news on the little girl next door with the hepatitis. Have attached a group photo with them all with the exception of Maria who had fallen asleep.
After lunch I had a freezing cold shower, and then wandered into town to purchase sme wine and beer for the evening. When I got back to base, I promptly fell asleep for 2 hours - had to be woken up for dinner!! After dinner, we had a few drinks in the lounge with the crowd. TV was off and we just sat and chatted. The teenagers tried to evict us so they could watch a DVD they had hired. We quickly made it clear we weren´t moving and they took the TV and DVD into the dining room so they could watch it. What a cheek!! Thankfully no one was out on the town last night and I managed to sleep from 11pm right through until after 8am on Friday morning!! Bliss!!
Thanks to Vicki´s mum for the lovely comment re the Nazca lines photos. I was just relieved that they are viewable when the full image is expanded on screen!! Hope that you´re enjoying reading the blog and seeing the odd photo of Vicki too!!
Mo - absolutely no sign of Paddington Bear here - I´m totally mystified!! Not even any toys or books for the kids. Will keep looking though. Last I´d heard he´d emigrated to London, but believe he still has a Great Aunt Lucy somewhere in deep dark Peru!!
Take care all and keep in touch!!
