me in the rain at the top of the canyon
i had the guides coat on as have nothing waterproof as usual! Now Why do i ask myself do i keep going trecking when
1..i have bad feet so walking any longer than 3 hours becomes agonising.
2..i hate walking up hills and by this i mean scrambling up rocks etc
and 3
why do i feel is neccesary to everytime i go trecking go on some massive walk where i think i may have a heart attack aloing the way.
why? i dont know but i seem to think its a good idea at the time and change my mind half way through when theres no other way out of it but to walk!
Well heres the story Hannah and i decided to go on a 3 day treck down the deepest...yes thats right i said deepest canyon in the world. The walk down was ok for me downhill was good zigzaging down the rocks in the pissing rainwithour a rain coat and learning some spanish on the way with our guide Eddy. We stayed in a little village which had lots of guineapigs and rabbits...however i have a feeling they werent the familys pets if you know what i mean.
2nd day trecked back
up part of the canyon to some villages (there was abit of swearing to myself on the uphill bits but other than that i put myself on a moaning ban in the morning so mainly just huffed and puffed with exhaustion)..and then back down to the oasis where we were staying for the night. It would have been great as there was a pool there perfect for sunbathing except the weather was cloudy so resorted to playing football with the lads. Me and hannah being the goalys...can you imagine, dont want to sound modest but we were actually quite good and it deffinatly made the stay there much more fun.
Now the 3rd day consisted of getting up at 2am and trecking back out of the canyon...ohhhhh yes this is always my favourite part walking up hill for 4 hours in the pitch black with a crappy torch sweating and thinking im going to die as everyone else alot fitter than me and practically skipping up...except i took the best option of my lifetime to hire a mule so not only supporting the local community by providing a jobs to the locals (which are used to walking up and
what a lovley sun hat hannah
hannah took this hat from lost and found...nice ! down every day so its not mean if thats what your thinking). I was extatic, if id had got up at 2am to walk in the dark up the deepest canyon in the world i would have honestly had a face like a bag of smached crabs, would have deffinatly taken me all day so instead i came best mates with my mule (who seemed to enjoy the walk and wasnt sweating or huffing and puffing like i would have been doing!)
So the moral is i like donkeys/mules they are life savers, its wasnt quite the donkey derby when your 10 years old but the best 6 quid i spent in a long time. The rest of the group appeared only about 20 mins after i arrived at the top i was amazed of that it was such a long way.
We went to see the condors after but i think they were still in bed as didnt see any flapping by, managed to get into the national park for a fraction of what everyone else payed as didnt get ticket before hand so that was a winner, did however see a condor conveniently perched on a
got to a village in the canyon
i was really glad to be here after a long haul up hill to this place fence on the bus on the way home, there massive with a wing span of 2.5 meters..wow!
when we got back to the hostal our friend from cuzco was there so had a few bottles of el vino and recuperated .....agian another great time in peru!
