hola,
So we are still in arequpia, and plan to be here a little while longer. We decided to take this week long spanish class that our hostel offers. its 4hrs a day, for 5 days (mon-fri). it was a good deal. so after that class we are unsure what we will do. we want to take a hike into the cola canyon, either a 2 or 3 day hike. so that will keep us here until next sunday or monday. then on to chile.
its nice here, weather is much more pleasant than lima. not much humidity, hardly any rain. there are 3 volcanoes in the distance, all about 18000 feet high. this creates a odd afternoon cloudiness each day. the morning always starts ff sunny, then by late afternoon the clouds roll in, and it looks like rain, but usually doesnt. We did a tour of a real old monastary yesterday, that was pretty cool. that is some tuff living, hard concrete, crapping in holes in chairs, ughh. mostly we have just been walking around most each day, checking out the town. things are pretty cheap here, can eat dinner for as little as $2 or as much as $10 for nicer places. We actually are looking into hiking one of the volcanoes, its almost 20,000 feet !!! but after talking to the guide, he reccomends we spend at least 5 days at above 10,000feet first. so this place is only 7800 feet. Now we think on our way back through towards the end of the trip we will try it. since we will have just been in bolivia and cusco, which are both well above 10,000.
