Tash
Check out that tash We spent 2 days in Arequipa and arrived there in the afternoon of Friday 28th November which was great because it was a big place with loads of opportunity to go drinking and party with the group. After settling into our hotel which was nice but...glass doors and walls so everyone could see in we all headed out for a group dinner at one of the restaurant recommended. We tried the local dish for a starter which was Guinea Pig. It doesn´t sound very appealing and I can tell the appearance was when it arrived was even less but we tried it and that´s that. After the restaurant we went to the bar next door and for happy hour, and what an hour it was! The happy hour lasted for 3 hours and it was 15 soles ($5) for 3 very large measures of Cuba libre!!! There was live music and a big dance floor which Stefano was only too happy to rip up. There was a large group of us from the tour there and we made the most of the evening. I managed to fall on the stage where the band was playing and in turn upset some French
dude...good times!
The next morning we awoke and headed into the city centre which was really nice. It was a big square with park is type in the middle and really nice building around it. The only touristy thing we did on this day was we visited a museum to see ´Waneata´who was a 13 yr old girl sacrificed at the top of a mountain by the Inca’s many years ago to satisfy the gods. Her body was frozen and years later when the volcano erupted it unearthed her body which was still intact with all organs and skin. Now museums aren’t really my thing but this was very interesting and worth a visit should any of you make it to Arequipa Peru! I n the evening the strong who survived the night before went back to the same bar for more action! It started really slow as you can image because all of us were worse for wear and feeling it. Just when the night was in danger of being a no show Sanj (Craig David / Crunchie) went and bought some playing cards and we got the drinking games going. This proved to be the best plan EVER!!!
We also introduced international Drinking rules and thumb master. After we literally ruined our bodies with the drinking games Stefano wasn´t satisfied with the bar we were having so much success in and at 1am decided we should go next door to a bigger outdoor club! It was a hard task but we dragged a few of the guys along (by now some had dropped off)...well it´s a good job Stefano has a sense for a party because this place was awesome! After hitting the bar we meet a local who just wanted to introduce us to all her friends as if we were a trophy and then the real fun started. We partied through out the night and by 3.30 / 4am everyone had gone except me and Stefano and we attempted to dance with some sort of coordination...it was a tough task but we managed it, just! At closing time we headed home about 5am and stopped to get the old favorite meat from the street and while walking home some random girl and guy called us over for a chat...this started well and there were friendly but Stefano and his charm some how managed to get talking
to the guy about tourists etc...Note for all who wish to travel to South America...some locals don´t like tourists. This guy had spent some time in Germany was treated very badly and he told how if he meet a German guy in Peru he would kill him, and this wasn´t a joke or term used for affect! This was the real deal. Thankfully we convinced him we were good people with good intentions and wanted to see his beautiful country. He then asked us to go to the next bar with him and where were staying. Needless to say we were not going with him and made a sharp exit as quickly as we could. By now the time was after 6am and we made it to the hotel to pack as the truck left at 9.30 am.
Arequipa turned out to be a great place to party and we should have been more touristy...but hey that’s life.
