“ It’s the strangest saddest city thou can’t see. For Lima has taken the white veil and there is an higher horror in this whiteness of her woe. “ Herman Melville author of Moby Dick

Lima ! The city of Kings as called by the founding fathers . We checked in to Hotel Maury home of the Pisco Sour and found our tour mates. We took off to the city center and tourd the Lima cathedral and the Monastery Catacombs. With more tour mates we ventured to the Inquisition museum, a bust because we couldn’t find any translations of the exhibits or an English guide as advertised in the Lonely Planet . Having enough of sightseeing for the day we dipped into a little Italian café and had our 1st sampling of Peruvian beer Crystail. To kick off this Peruvian adventure tour we left Lima to spend 2 days in the jungle , The Amazon jungle was an all day affair to enter 1st by plane from Lima to a bus ride then a boat ride .We puttered up to a long rustic wooden staircase. Our rooms outfitted with candles had no electric but had running cold water for showers . A step up from a campground the highlight of this place was the morning music of the jungle waking up. Birds reptiles and monkeys howling and whooping and singing.

Our next days activity was a hike thru the jungle in gum boots, a canoe on the lake and lunch. It sounds more romantic then it was, knee deep in mud at times we were certainly grateful for the big rubber boots and after looking long and hard we saw a bird guarding the nest, howler monkeys playing in the trees and a tarantula peeking out of his nest. Our canoe ride let us see some macaws in the distance before our trek back to the lodge. We left in the same transport we arrived and have descended onto Cusco 4200 above sea level and the gateway to the Inca Trail.
