We appeared in Chachapoyas very early and immediately looking for a minibus to Tingo, where we found cheap hospedaje - like a pub with rooms. As soon as we could we marcheed on to Kuelap, place about 4hours away / 2-3 h if you are local/ built by the tribe Chacha, later also inhabited by Incas. The ascent was unforgiving and cruel, pretty much up all the time, sun was scorching and we had to overcome 1500 metres in altitude difference - just mental...But in the end we made it and it worht it. The whole structure is nade odf limestone, with massive walls, some 20 metres high and the amount of building materials used here is 3times than the Great pyramid in Egypt. Just impressive and incredibly huge. Now you see the remains of over 200 houses, few ceremonial buildings, but Peruvians do their best and try to reconstruct some of them and one house is complete even with the roof. Outside and inside Kuelap you can see lamas. Again we were asked for a picture - this time with 2 Peruvian females - yes, now its official, we are the stars... On the way back the sky darkened and it was just a question of time, when the rain starts. Fortunately we had our ponchos, so it was not bad. The worst thing was that rain created mud on the paths and all was very slippery. By 6 we got back, had a dinner, a local beer, asked for switching on water to have a shower and went to bed.
