I first came to Ecuador in the late 1980's to teach English in Quito. I fell in love with this country, the natural beauty, the warmth and generosity of the people. I went on to work in international education on nearly every continent, but Ecuador kept calling me back. This Chicago girl has a "latina soul"! Clowning Around

First time I'd seen these "easy-empty" clown head trash cans. They just tip over when full.

Rice Fields in CorreAgua

Planting and tending the rice plants is very labor intensive. This lowland area is nestled between dry brown towns...an veritable oasis.

Buying Bananas in Cojimies

At five cents each bananas are a great nutritional value and oh so yummy. They can be found everywhere!!

Rycardo's Crocodile Drum

This creative woodworker designed a unique percussion instrument from a hollowed-out log. It has a vibrating "tongue" with different tones.

Long Time No Cola

This scene caught my eye. The sleepy fishing village of Cojimies had some picturesque (and bizarre) sights.

Stairway to Nowhere

Down the beach from Playa Escondida, the hillside was washed away from under these stairs. What a cool monument to the power of nature.

Feeling Crabby?

He was nestled in a hollow in the rocks by Playa Escondida, waving his red-orange pincers at us!
