All I can say is Wow! It was roasty toasty last night. I woke up so many times drenched in sweat. It's super muggy & there isn't the slightest breeze blowing into our room & the electricity goes on & off & when it's off, Wow! The fan doesn't work & the temperature in the room is probably 105. Seriously. Ugh. It was honestly one of the hottest nights of sleep yet & it's not really even too hot outside. Oh well! Free sauna.
This morning we had a delicious breakfast here at our Hosepdaje. The owner is Ariel & he is super chatty & very sweet. His daughter, Maria Jose, is ridiculously adorable & sat with us at breakfast talking & talking. She's almost 3 & full of energy. A little firecracker for sure. Ariel gave us cups of Aromaticas, which is like tea but is made up of only herbs & spices, no tea leaves. It was really tasty. We had some eggs & Arepas, which are Colombians version of tortillas except they're thicker & heftier, almost cakelike. And of course, coffee!
We headed off to the dive shop for our two dives today. I decided this
morning not to take dramamine because the dive sites are only 5 minutes off land. Ooopsss.. Of course the sea was nutso & the waves were huge & in just the 10 minutes we were on water I felt seasick! Another girl with us was even worse off than me. Yech. Once in the water it's always better. Our first dive was fun, we swam through a cave & saw a couple turtles.
Sadly, it's been raining & raining in Colombia. People have told us it's the most rain they've seen in May in some time. Because of that the Caribbean is murky due to the two huge rivers that empty into it near Capurgana. On land it's obvious. There's mud & silt & junk everywhere from the mountains. So our visibility wasn't the greatest. Our DM told us normally you can see for 20 meters, we probably could see for 8 meters. But, a dive is a dive & it was fun. A German guy with us took a ton of pictures & videos which were great.
During our surface interval we went back to the dive shop & the owners (a young Colombian couple) set out
fruit & juice & trail mix for all of us. It was so cute. I took a dramamine. I am not going to deal with that annoyance.
Our second dive (dive #76 for us!) was a nice wall dive with pretty coral. We saw a really big RN shark who swam around in circles under rocks near us. She was a big one. Then we headed back to shore & back to our hospedaje.
We were now starving so we ordered lunch from Ariel. We ordered two lunches because we were so hungry & the amount of food we received was crazy. Easily enough to feed 5 people, but we suffered through & ate most of it. 😉 The fish I ordered was Sierra & it was amazing. Like halibut but a little more firm. Yummy. We had soup & rice & patacones (fried plantains) & Ariel also brought us a smoothie made of mango & an herb that they use here all the time (I can't remember what it's called but it reminds me a little of anise, but more peppery). After our ginormous meal we headed to the beach, now that the sun is shining, to
catch a few rays until the sun sets. There isn't a lot of beach here but enough & it's so pretty the way the mountains are covered wth jungle all the way up until the town begins.
We headed back to our room & read & relaxed. We were still so full from our late lunch we didn't need any dinner tonight. We just sat out on our little patio & enjoyed the evening & watched the sky change colors. Every night there is thunder & lighting that makes the whole sky light up. I love sitting outside & watching the show.
It's a little cooler tonight so we might sleep better....
