Happy 4th of July!! I suppose I chose and odd place to celebrate it, but what can you do? One of the bars in town is actually having a 4th of July party- nice! We went there last night and met these crazy Colombians who were absolutely fascinated by gringos (even though the town is flooded with them). They took a million photos of us and were videotaping us dancing with them. Make sure you keep yous eyes peeled for the latest YouTube sensation- Gringos Gone Wild! I am currently in Taganga which is a small beach town on the north coast, about 100 (?) miles west of Venezuela. It´s touristy but like I said most of the tourists are actually Combians on vacation.
This morning I dove with the shop Calypso for cheap, about $50 US which was interesting. I heard some stories about sketchy shops in the town, but no one would tell us who was good or bad. We walked around yesterday sizing them up and this one seemed pretty good. Unfortunately, the dive masters I talked with weren´t on my dive and I´d bet money that PADI would not approve their techniques. My gear was fine,
The crazy night at Mirador
Sean, Juliet, and the Crazy Colombians but we did a wreck dive at 25 meters and my divemaster had 0 bars of air by the time we surfaced. Glad it wasn´t me! I heard of some people running out of air on their dives here, too. I believe it! The second dive was still deep, about 60 ft and we saw some great fish. I was a genius and didn´t bring my dive tables, but I´m pretty sure we were not in the safe zone... Not to mention my divemaster on this dive wasn´t even wearing a watch and relied on mine for our safety stop. Thankfully my friend tells me the bends usually hits about and hr or 2 after the dive, so I should be in the clear. 😉
Tonight I think the Awesome Aussie #5 and I are going back to the club. Apparently I have stolen the heart of a more crazy Colombian who has his heart set on me. Eeek. Already breaking the hearts of the poor Colombianos. Hopefully I´ll be able to escape him for a bit and get my Reggae on.
Tomorrow I think the Aussie and I are heading to Tayrona to back on some gorgeous
beaches and sleep in hammocks. I think I can handle that for a few days! I´ll probably stay until Thursday and then do my Cuidad Perdida hike before I fly to Cali on the 14th. Keeping busy! It´s time, though, with my recent days of being a wandering bum. Me gusta! ´
I´ll try to get photos up soon. The computers here seem to have it out for my camera as I get shocked every time I connect the cord to the computer. I think I´ll wait to upload as to not fly my poor camera. Since I´ll be out of civilation for a bit, I likely won´t update for a while but I should have some amazing photos when Í return.

Diving in Taganga
So sorry to hear your story, but my advice is to google first and check padi consumer alerts. The owner was expelled from PADI some years ago and Calypso is not a PADI Dive Center. Before going diving ask the license of the dive master or the instructor, probably your Dive Master was not even a a professional. There are very good dive shops in Taganga but if you keep looking for the cheapest you wont get good equipment, good people or good training and the chances of having an accident will increase. Good luck next time.
