Panama City - San Blas - Cartagena

We survived the sea! We arrived in Cartagena, Colombia yesterday after 5 days of sailing and it is nice to be on solid ground (despite still feeling the motion of the boat - I hope it doesn´t take long to go away). The trip was an experience and not all what I was expecting. Fortunately the people we sailed with were fun (a single guy from England and a couple from Croatia and England) and a Swedish captain who knew how to sail very well (and wasn´t a drunk like a few that we had heard about). The first couple days were spent swimming and snorkeling off of a couple different islands. We also had the opportunity to tour one of the San Blas Islands and see just how primitive the people still live. The Kunas (local people) were very friendly but of course wanted money for everything. The last 2.5 days were rough as we sailed straight with no where to stop and nothing to see but ocean. Fortunately we didn´t hit too bad of weather but I felt quite ill and was in bed both nights shortly after 7pm because I felt sick as soon as the sun went

down and could no longer see the horizon. Braeden didn´t seem as bothered by the motion of the boat but did struggle with a minor throat infection. By the end we were all ready for a good shower and room to walk as it is not easy spending 5 days on a small sailing boat with 6 people.

We arrived in Cartagena at approx. 9:30am and it was already 40 degrees. We managed to find a cheap guesthouse but as always you get what you pay for. So far we have spent time wondering around and checking out the old quarter. We also met up for drinks with our sailing buddies last night and plan to do the same tonight - it is nice being able to walk around at night in a group as opposed to having to take cabs everywhere for safety. We are already planning our next move but have found that transportation is going to be quite expensive no matter where or how we move around Colombia.
