Keren and IKeren and IKeren and I

Keren's home, Bogota
Hello all,

It is Nitzan, and I am going to write about Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

We took a night bus from Medellin to Bogota, and arrived Bogota at 6:00 a.m. in the morning, and it was freezing cold outside, we of course did not know that it was that cold and we came from a hot place. Anyway, we took a taxi from the terminal to the hostel my dad booked in the internet. When we arrived to the hostel we just took our room and went to sleep in the warm beds.

After 2 hours we woke up new and warm. If you don't know that I have my best friend from Israel living here in Bogota, then I am telling it to you now, and her name is Keren, she has 2 sisters, one bigger than her and one smaller than her, she is in the middle. So when we woke up we called her and told her that we are here in Bogota, so we can meet. After 2 hours she was in the hostel, when we saw her we did not recognize who she is. She was one head above me, and much thiner then she was in Israel. So after we hugged and kissed and hugged and kissed she and her dad took us the whole family to their car and drove us to their house there we met her mother and sister, and again we hugged and kissed and hugged and kissed. Then they showed us their house it was HUGE and Beautiful!!!!! they live in a building and their apartment has 2 floors. They have a big saloon, and they have 2 house makers one works in the kitchen, and only in the kitchen and one is cleaning the house, and 1 driver that picks out the girls from school. Each girl has her own bathroom. When they finished to show us their house we went to play and the adults of course went to talk. We played for an hour or so and then they took all of us to a restaurant to eat lunch, that restaurant is called Crepes and Waffles, right it is a restaurant of crepes and waffles. There, each one chose his salt crepe, desert waffle, or ice cream and drink. when we finished we were full but the only problem that it was too tasty so we could not stop eating.

After we paid they took us to a nice walk in the neighborhood. We saw 2 malls and there were nice streets. Before we got back to her house we went to the Blockbuster and took a movie, and a bag of popcorn with caramel, I knew it was going to be really yummy, because her dad brought it to Israel, and we ate it together. When we arrived to the house we took the movie to another building that was smaller, and there we watched the movie, I thought we are going to watch it in her house but we found out that there is a hole different building with a billiard table, a room with a bar for parties, a room for kids with toys a mini cinema room, and outside a mini golf for kids too. So meanwhile the parents prepared us popcorn and put the movie we played in the kids room. When the popcorn was ready we put on the movie and ate the popcorn , of course it was yummy. After watching the movie we went back to her house and the kitchen lady prepared to us dinner and a special Colombian drinking hot chocolate. After the dinner and the really good hot chocolate, Omer, Shachar, my mom and dad left and I stayed to sleep there. After they left we put on our pj's and watched a bit TV, and after that we went to her room and stayed awake until 1:30 am.

Next morning Omer, Shachar, my mom and dad came again at 11:00 am. and both families went to an attraction park, there we ate lunch in a Colombian local, good restaurant. When we finished eating we ran to the attractions and each one chose one that he wants the most, Keren, Omer, Sivan Keren's little sister, and I chose a huge trampoline that you jump the highest you want. It was super fun we laughed a lot and had lots of fun. Dana Keren's big sister did not want to do any attraction. And Shachar chose racing cars. After all the big kids finished to do our attractions Shachar and Sivan got to do another attraction - I know it was not fair!!! They both chose llama riding. Remember the animals llamas from Peru. When we all got to do

our attractions we left and drove to a factory that produces lactose stuff, it is called Alpina and it is very famous in Colombia. When we arrived to the parking we found out that we were not the only ones that thought about it, the place was full. When we entered the store of the factory we went to chose a desert, and I almost could not see what I was taking because everybody pushed. Finally I chose something. It was pieces of cheese with a marmalade and Arequipe (something we only found in Colombia and it is very much like caramel). When everybody finished choosing what they want we went outside and there were tables so we all sat there and ate. After we were all really full. We drove back home from a different way, through the mountains. The way back was beautiful because there were many, many lights in Bogota and we were in the mountain above it, seeing all. We arrived to their house pretty late, we went up with the elevator and took our bag from the apartment and again, hugged and kissed, and hugged and kissed. But this time it was for real because

Gold Museum, Bogota
it was the last time I will see her.

Next morning we went to the MOST FAMOUS GOLD MUSEUM IN THE WORLD!!!!! There we saw of course a lot of gold, there were many shapes of things made out of gold like: necklaces, earrings, bracelets, shields, and more. I can't really tell you all of the stuff that there was but I can tell you a bit. There were also many statues and figures made of gold, the scientists think that the people made shapes of gold, after all it is not that easy to do tiny holes in little pieces of gold. They took wax from the bees some clay out of mud and in the wax they made the shapes they wanted to create in the gold, then they covered it with clay, and then they put it in the fire for a few hours, then when they spill out the wax because it became a liquid in the fire and then they pour into the clay the liquid gold, and then walla the gold figure or shape came out, and that is also a way of doing the same shapes a lot of times. One of the rooms in the museum was actually a very big vault that people can enter it. I expected the museum to be more impressing than it was but that how it is and probably that is how it will be. After the museum we went back to the hostel and there stayed the whole afternoon and evening.

Next morning we woke up early, ate breakfast and went out to town to museo de Botero, that means Botero's museum. Botero is the same artist that made the same statues we saw in Medellin. In the museum we saw both paintings and statues, some of the statues were not the real ones but copies of them. Some pictures were really funny. I think most of the statues that he sculptured are of women. One of the pictures, that I like most, is a very fat Mona Lisa. After the Botero museum we went to a museum called 'Casa de la Moneda', that is like a museum of money. It actually was in the same building as the Botero museum. There we did not look at the whole museum, we just looked at one thing that is called La Lechuga that means the Lettuce. The lettuce is a religious ornament with many, many pearls, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and there was even one sapphire, like our last name Sapir. Of course there were more gems that I do not remember. They call it the lettuce because it has so many emeralds so it looks almost all green. It weighs about 50 kilos in total, much heavier than me! After the two museums we walked till the Transmilenio. The Transmilenio is a bus that has his own lane and there are stations like metros with tickets and machines, and only when the bus stops the doors in the station opens automatically, the bus tells you what are the next two stops and wich streets are close to the station. It is really cool! So we took the Transmilenio to the bus terminal, and from the bus terminal we took a bus to a town called Zipaquira.

When we arrived to Zipaquira after two hours drive we went to eat lunch. After we ate lunch we went to a salt cathedral underground - inside salt mines. The cathedral was not that impressing to me but for other people maybe it was. Also we are Jews and not Christians so maybe that's why it was not really interesting to us. In the cathedral there were a couple of stations for the meaning that each time when Jesus fell with the cross somebody gave him or did something to him. In each station there was a cross each time it was deeper in the ground. After all the stations we entered a big room where the local people prey sometimes, there was a very big cross and all of it made from salt. When we saw the cross from above it looked like there is a heart in the middle of it. After we saw all the cathedral, we saw a little movie about how the cathedral and the mines connected to it are built together. When we finished to see the movie we went out of the cathedral and went to the bus back to Bogota.

Next morning we stayed in the hostel studying, playing, skyping and just relaxing. At noon we went to eat lunch in an Arabic restaurant, it was really good, I specially liked the desert, called Backlawa. After lunch we packed our stuff and in the evening we left to Salento our next destination. I will miss Bogota and especially Keren - hopefully we will meet again in Israel in the summer, when she will come to visit, and I will be back there.

Meanwhile miss you all,

Nitzan
