next to a line of Chilean flags by some important building!
Ok so we were a bit rubbish after Kim left and didn't do very much! We did go up a little hill thing which was near the hostel. Not quite sure what its called! We got a finuncular up to the top (little railway thing) then took a walk across to get a round trip up and down on the cable car, then walked back along the top to get the funincular (dont know how its spelt so thought id go for a bit of variation!!) back down again. We thought we would get some really lovely pictures from the cable car as it was sunset, but we had to wait for over an hour to get on the cable car so in fact it was dark!!!! We did get some nice views of the city all lit up but we couldn't get any photos as we were moving! Heaths camera doesn't seem to do night photos well at all! I can take ones with mine holding it still, but if i try with Heaths then it comes out blury, even if its resting on something it still comes out blurred! On the top of the hill is a big statue
AndesAndesAndes

cool to be in a city and be able to look up and see the Andes!
of the virgin mary which we got some photos of (still in the dark!)
We did go down to the farmers market there which is a nicer part of Santiago we think as its not just like a big city so you can feel you are in South America more. We bought food there to cook meals but just more pasta!!! We did buy actual tomatos though to cook down for the sauce, not just buying ready made sauce!!!
We also did manage to post the postcards we had all writen before Kim left. We were surprised how cheap the post was so sent a parcel to phil from there as well, hope it gets to Oz before he leaves for England!!
We walked round the city more and went to a museum which was interesting. It was lots of exhibits of pottery which were nice but got a bit boring!!! They all seemed to just symbolise fertility or death!!!
We also managed to be at the hostel for a bbq ian did which was really cool!!!!
the way Ian does bbq is apparently the family style. He cooks all the meat and gradually as its all done he takes it off, cuts it up into small pieces and passes it round for all of us till its gone! Better this way as we also dont use plates and we had to do the washing up after!!!Munchkin (ians really cute little dog) much prefers bbq to the wine tastings! We also managed to be there for another wine tasting, which was on our last night. There was only a few people in the hostel so this time we sampled just 6 bottles of wine but some of them were different to last time which was good. Also as there was only 6 people drinking them, there was enough left for a second glass of the ones we liked!!!! We also treated ourselves to a takeaway pizza on our last night as it meant that we didn't have to cook, and that it wasn't pasta. We can cook more than just pasta it was just the easiest option in a shared kitchen.
Probably one of the most exciting things we did was get washing done. Although they did manage to shrink our clothes even further so some of our socks look more like they belong to a child and our trousers

you can see the andes in the back ground
are rather short!!!
We tried to book a day tour into the Andes which we really wanted to do, but the guy who did the tours didn't pick up the phone when Ian tried for us, we got up early and Ian tried some more the day we had hoped to go, but still no answer so unfortunately we missed out, so thats another thing to add to the list of stuff we want to do when we return!!!
