5 de Septiembre
In case of revolution, wear a Vandetta Mask and dance under a flag The past 2 weeks have flown by. After my first essay, it was time for a little break. But not too much of a break though, since I have two exams the coming week and a paper as well. So here are some highlights from the past 2 weeks.
Californication Shout out to Trace, Brodie and Kristie for having this get together with the group from California. They opened their house to us and spent their some money to buy drinks and food as well as got a band together for what turned out to be an amazing get together. I must say, it was nice seeing the other kids from the program, a lot of whom I admittedly haven't seen in a while until then. All in all, it was good fun. Cheers to Trace, Brodie and Kristie.
5 de Septiembre 5 de Setiembre de 2013 was a student rally in Santiago. We were told that the rally was approved by the police, so we put on our backpacks and cameras and went out to play tourist. To clarify, it wasn't a protest, it was a rally. And by rally I mean people dancing in the

Free and Quality Public Education streets, playing drums, selling food and taking photos and chatting. It was all in good fun until the Carabineros (police) broke up with water cannons and tear gas. For the most part of when we were there, it went pretty well. We left at the first sense of Carabineros, and nothing happened to us at all, except a pretty decent lunch at a local place for a very low price.
Chile 3 Venezuela 0 6th of September was qualifying game for La Roja (Chile) against Venezuela. According to my Chilean housemate, the odds were supposedly stacked against the Chilean team, since Venezuela was apparently ranked pretty high. So I bought a Chilean flag, wore it as a Superman Cape and met some other students from the Facultad de Ciencas Politicas to go watch the game at BellaVista. I thought it was going to be just a few of us, and we ended up being, well, around 30. I thought La Roja played really well, well enough to earn themselves a 3-0 victory against the Venezuela team. Well played Chile. Viva La Roja!
Pomaire We headed to Pomaire bright and early in the morning. Our whole house
Californication
Swinging at the house went together. Pomaire is a little pueblo outside Santiago, but still in Region Metropolitana. Pomaire is famous for their art works as well as pottery products. We went to a local taller (workshop) in Pomaire and had some of what I thought were the best empanada and bread I've had in a while. After some nice pottery work and lessons, we had some lunch and then did some shopping. Pomaire is famous for their 1KG empanada, which I saw but didn't buy. Apparently, 1KG is pretty weak, since Kristen, Arleen and Claire K found an even bigger empanada which was probably somewhere around 5+. Overall, Pomaire was great fun and also great to see some people I haven't seen in a while.
I'll probably be dropping an update every week and a half to 2 weeks now since the weeks have been pretty busy lately.
Saludos
Conor
