Empty Metro
After my long Thursday, I managed to find a seat on the Metro as well as snap a photo. It's those long evenings and tranquil train rides. It's been a long week, capped off with classes, and a lot of them, field trips, but also some birthdays and some fun. Needless to say, I'm pretty grateful it's Friday night.
The week started off Saturday, with a trip to Via Grimaldi, a torture camp during the Pinochet era. Our tour guide was one of the survivors, who showed us around and told us some stories of his time there. Pedro, our aforementioned tour guide, then took us to the Santiago General Cemetery, where Salvador Allende was buried. I have very few pictures of these sites, out of respect to Pedro, I didn't want to be occupied taking pictures as opposed to listening to what he had to say. Monday was a little bit of madness in mid-town, I just had to run some errands downtown, as well as withdraw money from the local Scotiabank, since the Dollar peaked versus the Peso since we've been here.
Tuesday was a long day, and when I say long, I mean loooooooong. I remember when I used to complain a little when classes ended at 5 or 6 in the evening, but now every Tuesday and Thursday, classes end at 7:50,
Villa Grimaldi
The only picture I took out of respect to Pedro. and getting home a little before 9 seems to be the norm. But this was not a normal Tuesday, one class was canceled, so I just hung out with Kacey for a while in the library hoping to get some reading done, but let's be real, neither of us got past 4 pages. Also, it was Devon's birthday, shout out to Devon! So we had some pizza and cake. Devon's probably gonna hate my for this picture, but oh well.
Wednesday, I went to the EAP office for a drop by. I won't bore you with the details. Basically just dropped off some papers, talked to Luis and met some other students there. Shout out to Kristie, Emily, Johanna, Karina and Abelardo. But also on Wednesday night, Marcus' birthday party on the roof of his apartment building, so shout out to him! It was amazing the view from up there, and we just stood around and enjoyed some chat and just good company. I think a bunch of them went to Miercoles Po', but I didn't, and neither did Rebecca nor Diego. Oh yeah, I got a video of Marcus getting sung happy birthday to, but he really doesn't
want that one up and well, no videos.
Today I had an interview with Chile Transparente, the Chilean branch of Transparency International. I want to say they were excited to have me over for an interview, since Daniela, my interviewer said they don't have much English-speakers coming around for internships. If all goes well, my job will be, according to Daniela, to interview via skype people who work for organizations in Anglo phonic countries, and in CT's case, their recent case studies involve South Africa and Canada, so I might work with them for a while.
That's been how this week ran. Also I have a paper due on Sunday. But really, oh well, I'll get it done and it doesn't really affect any of you.
Well, till then,
Saludos!
Conor
