Now then, this is a bit weird.

Up until now, we’ve been travelling into the future. The further East we go, the more into the future (with respect to the UK) we go.

So, in Australia, we were 11 hours ahead of the UK. We could see things that were going to happen (for a few hours at least), we knew the UK lottery numbers (did you get them?), we knew what you (in the UK) would be doing for the next 11 hours.

Anyway, today, we flew from Sydney to Santiago (Chile). Overall, the journey took 17 hours. It was in two legs, Sydney to Auckland, New Zealand (about 4 hours) then, after a couple of hours break, Auckland to Santiago, Chile (about 11 hours).

That nice man at Trailfinders suggested we should stay a few days in New Zealand, but, due to budgetary constraints, we took it out. Once we were actually there however, we wished we had stayed, it looked really interesting, deep blue seas, rich green, rolling countryside. As it happened, we were confined to the Transit lounge in Auckland airport. All we could do was stare out of the large airport windows, banging on the glass, shouting “New Zealand, New Zealand, help ! We are prisoners in Transit”. Clearly, however, to the locals, all they could see was two small figures waving in the distance, silent and futile, no noise, no sign of our distress.

Next time then.

In New Zealand, we were actually 13 hours in the future. The furthest in the future we’ve ever been, Doctor Who will be/is/was proud.

But then it all changed. Now that we’ve landed in Chile, we find that we are actually 4 hours behind the UK !!!!

How did that happen ? We must have been through some spacetime continuum vortex, round about the International Date Line I expect (I thought I felt something). Anyway, we can no longer provide you with the winning lottery numbers, we’re in the past now.

So, here we are in Chile. Weird because we left Sydney this morning, travelled for 17 hours, and then arrived in Santiago this morning. Are we older, or younger than we were?

Anyway, bit early to say anything about Chile just yet. We have a whole day tomorrow, before we fly to Peru, to check things out (should be enough) so will be a separate blog entry.

As for the flights, very comfortable (especially as we had exit door seats, spent most of it sitting on the wing looking down). Moi wondered whether we should wear flight socks for the journey, I thought perhaps just on the second leg.

Boom boom.

Chile is 4 hours behind the UK at the moment. So, when its 23:00 in the UK, it's 19:00 in Chile. As I say, bit weird going from the future (New Zealand) into the past (Chile). I mean, isn't it normally the other way round ?
