Me, Yasna and Julia
Last days with Yasna and Julia There is nothing exciting in this log, there are no adventures or exciting places to visit. I just wanted to tell all of you that communication and connection can find a way through language barriers.
There was no hot passion or lustful desires. It was two people doing the best they could under the circumstances.
Today me, Yasna, Julia and Jovica left Vina Del Mar back for Santiago. For me and Jovicia it was back to Matias house. For Julia it was back to Australia (she had a flight to catch from Santiago) and for Yasna it was a sad fare well to a best friend (Julia) who had shared a year long friendship with.
It was like any other day we all got up around 2pm after having a big-huge night out till 6am (sorry no photos did not take my camera with me, but there was an Elvis impersonator just to set the seen). Oh yea I should mention, we caught a cab home with 6 adults in the back seat, I don’t know how but it was fun and painful at the same time.
The bus ride back to Santiago was fine although we paid for an air condition bus and were told when we got on the bus that the air conditioning did not work and it was like 35degrees outside and the bus did not have any windows that opened just those open portals on the roof. Let’s just say it was hot.
When we all got to Santiago, I left Julia and Yasna to head off to the airport while went back to Matias house to drop off my bags that I had taken with me to Vina. I told them I would meet them at the Airport later.
When I left Matias house and headed off to the Airport it finally hit me. I was in Chile, I did not know how to speak the language and I did not know exactly how to get to the Airport (people had given me a little bit of directions here and there how to get there but nothing concrete). Now it was all up to me. It was like sink or swim. Me being able to write the blog meant I some how swam my way to the Airport.
Yasna and Julia were waiting there for me and me and Yasna wished Julie all the best as she headed off back home. I realised this was going to be first of many friendships I was going to make on my Journey that were going to come to a sudden fare well. I had known Julie only for a week or so. But was a week it was and her being able to speak Spanish helped me a lot.
Now there was just Yasna and me and what to do, How to talk to her without Julia translating ever work or emotion. Where was she going to stay as she could not stay with me at Matias house? Nether the less we made our way back to Matias home. On the way back we found out that the Metro (local trains) had closed for the night. We stood there wondering what to do. There was still one train to come but the ticket windows were closed. Yasna being her adventurous and bold self asked a passer by if he could help us as he seemed to have a metro weekly pass and could swipe us through the gates, her charm worked and we were on the way home.
Once arriving at home I, yes I cooked us some dinner while trying to figure out where she could stay for the night. The only solution I could see was to stay awake the whole night out on the streets. I asked her if that was ok with her and she replied ´si´ (yes), and that’s what we did. We walked to a park near by and sat there on the benches and kids swings from midnight to 6am, so she could catch the first metro back to the bus station and catch a bus back to Vina.
You are all probably wondering what we did for 6 long and grueling hours. Firstly let me tell you it did not seem long at the first time check it was like 2:30am almost half way there. So what did we do all that time? Simply put it we talked. She spoke in Spanish and I answered back in English even though we had a very little grasp of each others languages, it did not seem then. It was like we both were speaking the same language and I understood what she was trying to say (maybe not the exact words but I understood the feelings behind the words perfectly) and vice versa.
She made me understand that language is a barrier that we put on ourselves when we make ourselves believe that since we both don’t speak the same language we won’t be able to communicate with each other.
6am cam and I put her on the bus back home and said good buy to another friend in such a short time. I think the next 9 months are going to be happy and sad at the same time.
