We found a nice accomodation with TV in Osorno, bought pack of red wine and watched TV until midnight. After that we made a trip trough deep south american rainforest to a place called Thermas de Callao, but it was rainy the whole day we stayed there, so we spent the time in the tent. Termas de Callao are two small wooden bathtubs, which are locked behind a door of a small shed. The key for that shed is 40 minutes away (after having a bath you maybe have to return the keys the same way :). On the way back it stopped to rain and we saw a beautiful mountain behind a lake. In Osorno we had a meal called Pichanga - very good - lots of fries, lots of beef, lots of sausages and ... read more

Summary in English: We arrived in Osorno, small town, but lots of small markets and lots of people. We moved after few hours to a camp about 90 km away in mountains. There we were all alone :) Next day we made a nice (but L O N G) trip to the place called Pampa Frutilla - a very nice spot. We pitched our tent on a snow (very good experience) and had a beautiful morning. Z Puconu sme prisli do Osorna. No a potom sme isli ... read more

A Day at the Rodeo South America » Chile » Osorno By Maria BApril 19th 2007url='/Videos/3489.html' onclick='dialog("/Videos/3489.html?popped=1","tbvideo",600,600);return false;'Rodeo In April, Jen and I were fortunate enough to catch one of the last events of the Rodeo season here in Chile - apparently it's a big deal. The family that Jen's staying with compete each year. We got to see all their trophies! It was so funny to see the Chilean huasos (pronounced “waso”- kind of like cowboys we have in the states) who walk around wearing their big hats and spurs with pride. During each run, the team gets points depending on what part of the cow they pin against the wall. Don't ... read more

Osorno only made for a very quick stop - I hadn´t heard anything fantastic or even agreable about it. But when I went to get some stuff done while I was waiting for the next bus connection, I figured that it wasn´t that bad at all. Only because there is no tourist tam tam it doesn´t mean that it doesn´t have its own charme. Guess it was actually one of the most authentic chilean cities I got to see so far. There were no made up fancy and shiny tourist shops, expensive cafe's or restaurants and hawkers galore but a very normal (I suppose) buzz of people running around getting their daily business done. It's fun to see what chilean life is all about. Everything seems to be a tad slower than what we are used ... read more
