We woke up and went to have some breakfast at the nearby mall. We had a 1pm slot for the train to Corcovado, so we caught a bus outside the mall at about noon. It was a quick ride of maybe 20-30 minutes through the city, up to Cosme Velho neighborhood. The bus system in Rio is great and easy to use. Each ride costs 3 Reais, and there is an employee on board, besides the driver, who you pay the fare to, and they give you change.
Once at our destination, we were told we could take an early train up since it was a light day, so we did. It was about a 20 minute ride up a steep jungle trail. It was a little foggy/cloudy, but we were hoping it would burn off. It did for long enough to get some photos, but I wish it had been more clear.
Oh well, at least it was dry. As it was when we were on top of Sugarloaf the previous day, it was cooler up on top of Corcovado. This was a welcome retreat from the heat of the city. There was a good sized crowd, but
it was not so bad that you felt overwhelmed. We took a bunch of photos, and admired the views between the fog. One of the cool things when we were up there was that there was a high ranking official from Angola who was visiting. Even though he had a large security detail, he was friendly and took photos with people. We finally decided to go back down in the late afternoon. I think it may have been about 4pm. When we got back down, we had a late lunch at Bob's Burgers. Not really what we wanted, but all we saw. It was good though. We took the bus back to our flat and hung out a bit, before heading to the Rio Sul mall again. There is a free bus from the mall to a metro station in Copacabana, so we used it. Once in Copa, it was a 3 block walk to the beach. We walked down the beachfront for a half an hour or so and then looked for a place to eat. We saw a couple of places, but decided on a chinese restaurant that looked like it was a little "hole in the wall"
place. It had a decent crowd and the food looked and smelled good so we stayed and ate. Glad we did because the food was fantastic! The service was excellent too! We had some sweet and sour chicken, beef yakisoba, and egg fried rice. I had a guarana soda to drink and also a caipirinha too.
After dinner, we walked back to get the free bus. The last one was at 9pm, and it was about 10 minutes until that. We waited and it did not come. After about 15 minutes, we just got a taxi which was cheap anyways, at about 8 Reais. While in the taxi, we saw the free bus pass by. We got back to our flat and just went to sleep.
