After the disaster of missing our jeep at 6am to the border (must buy a new alarm clock!), we eventually got on a bus to take us to Tupiza at 9am. The bus was supposed to arrive at 4.30pm, giving us enough time to continue onto Villazon (border with Argentina) before it got dark. However! this is South American time. We arrived in Tupiza (2 hours from Villazon) at 9pm. Unfortunatley, we had no money on us and there were no ATM's that took visa! We started to panic a bit, as we didn't fancy sleeping on the street. After leaving yet another hostel which didn't accept payment with travellers cheque, we bumped into this amazing woman, who offered to give us 40 bolivianos so that we could get a place to stay, saying she hoped ... read more

Well, who would have thought it possible, i have finally left Argentina on the 12 Feb 2007. The country tht has been my home for the last three months, where i have met amazing people, danced in great clubs, partied and seen some really incredible facets of nature. I guess that when you are travelling there is something of a risk of getting too used to a place, be it a country, sity or evenhostel and not wanting to leave. Argentina was comforatable to a degree for me. And hence the three month sojurn. But yes, all the journey goes on, and on 9 Feb i found mysef after a cramped 4 hour bus ride being refused entry into bolivia....apparently south africans need a visa to enter and being a friday i had to wait until monday ... read more

117 1/2 hours. That's roughly the amount of time I have spent on a bus over the last few weeks (starting from December 18th and not counting day trips). Just in case you think it's a typo, I'll throw the number out there again: 117 1/2. By now, I'm perfectly happy on any bus, with or without roaches, bus cama or semi cama seats or broken ones, on time or not. It's just something you get used to after the first 60 hours or so. But I am dedicating this blog entry to a very interesting day of bus travel through southwestern Bolivia and into Argentina. And I can say DAY because my travel experience lasted for 23 hours total. Let's begin in Uyuni, a dusty town with one main street and its only sighting of ... read more

OK, so we were forced to roll on back to freakin La. Paz- could we be anymore depressed and angry about this situation?? Uh no I don’t think so... salt was rubbed into the wound when we saw Danny and Chris for a mere 5minutes, me looking worse for wear after I had a hell of a night on the bus back to the city... never, EVER, think its better to sit next to a Mexican than a Bolivian. I really learnt that lesson and to every Bolivian I´ve previously embarrassed by creating a scene and pushing you away from me when you try and sit nect to me - I’m very sorry. Mexican, wandering fingers- I will find you one day.
Anyway, everything teetering on the verge of disaster I broke down in tears over ... read more

Hallelujah! - At last the South America I thought that I would be seeing. Everywhere so far has been just a bit too easy and not what I was expecting at all. After my night bus to the border I arrived in La Quiaca at 7.30 am. The border crossing was relatively smooth and the journey from Villazon to Tupiza began. The bus was a local bus and was screaming Spanish music from the oldest, static full speakers that I have ever heard. ... read more

Hi everybody, Today we crossed the boarder from Argentina into Bolivia. Unfortunately we have been hampered this time by unreliable Bolivian transport and our planned train is not running. The most we could establish at the station was "No trains, no trains"! So guess that means there are no trains then! So guess what, yes, bus it is again! Only an 18 hour journey this time though. But it has meant that we have had to spend a day in Villazon the boarder town, not a place to visit unless you have too! But we will be out of here at 6.30pm - looking forward to the bumpy i.e. none existent roads up to La Paz, all part of the experience I´m sure! But as we have all this time to kill we thought we would ... read more
