Edit Blog Post
The most frustrating thing that can happen to a writer of blogs is most likely an ambiguous black button on your camera that, when lightly pressed, deletes all of your hard work, pausing only to spurt out a provocative little "thank you" before it switches itself off. Regardless of the lack of decent photos, I think it´s been an interesting couple of weeks. A little surreal in places, but all in all, interesting. First of all, a little background; unfortunately, Nahuel is currently going through a custody battle with Tiao´s biological mother, which has resulted in an investigation by social services into how Tiao lives with Nahuel and Silvana. I can atteste to knowing that Tiao lives well, in a loving, secure family environment- but social services obviously doesn´t know this. Before this development, I was sleeping in what had been Tiao´s room, and he was sleeping in his parent´s room. I acknowledged it wouldn´t look great to social services if some European dude was crashing on the kid´s bed. So Celeste at the institute had to organise a new family for me to live with for the duration of the investigation.
So I met a young professional couple, Marcello (different
from the sexed-up Buenos Aires guy) and Luisina, at the institute. It is fair to say they are awesome. I´ll get a photo up soon. It´s incredible how I´ve been so lucky twice with hosts. If these guys have leftover ice cream in the freezer, they let me eat it from the tub... Sweet Jesus-biscuits I have never known such kindness! While I was rather spoilt by Nahuel in speaking English to him all the time, Luisina is hard-nosed when it comes to me speaking Spanish, and rightly so, I think I´ve learnt alot here already (she made me read the horoscopes, so already I know how to lie skillfully in Spanish). Marcello is quite quiet but when you get him on his own he´s a good laugh, so I´m really happy with how things have turned out.
Oh, and Feliz Pascua (Happy Easter!) to everyone, I hope you guys got lots of chocolate eggs this year, I sure as hell did; treasure hunts, from friends, people at the institute. Diabetes ahoy! I´ve been invited a couple of times to Mikaela´s (the institute receptionist and all-round organiser of everthing) and she and her roommates made some good chow on both
occasions, though does anyone here know how difficult it is to eat cheese fondue? Sometimes you just wanna eat something without the cheese strands reaching several miles into the distance y´know?.
Last saturday I went to a housewarming party at Marissio´s friend´s house, which largely consisted of drinking copious amounts of local sweet-wine, a dangerously high alcohol content liquer called fernet and laughing at my tenuous grasp of the Spanish language. After that we went out to a nightclub in the middle of town, where they proceeded to try to get girls to dance with me. Surprisingly, they succeeded. These girls didn´t speak a word of English, but I really hit it off with one of the girls, Celeste (not my boss, hopefully) and I´m seeing her again on Thursday for a drink. I should really have suggested a movie; how the hell, I ask myself, am I going to carry a conversation? I told her I´d be taking my dictionary...
I know this is a relatively short post, and that I haven´t done one for a couple of weeks. I once again regretfully point you in the direction of internet access. I´ll have a serious talk with the lads
at the wificentre me thinks...
Much Love,
FarawayFrank
