After staying in bed nearly a full day and doing nothing but watch the sole english chanel in argentina
on our first day of guided tours we took a bus, then a boat to Victoria island which is a national park. we took a short walk with the stroller but could not venture out on most paths. malaya had to fall asleep in the stroller and it was so cold and snowy outside. we bundled her up as best we could and spent most of the afternoon inside a restaurant looking at view giving malaya some warmth for her nap.
when she awoke from her nap it was time to get back on the boat. that is when she lost it. i have never seen a child so upset. she screamed and cried and cried and could not be calmed. an older woman came over to us and told us that it is an argentinian supersticion for a woman with strong eyes to calm a baby. i was desperate so i let her put Photo 3
victoria island her hand on malayas head, saw a prayer and try to calm her. it did not work. after what seemed long the longest hour ever a young man came over and offered malaya a piece of chocolate. it worked. she loved it and she calmed down. now i must say that i am a mother who always has a dairymilk in my diaper bag.
the boat then took up to another national park called Arrayanes. this was a beautiful forest full of cinnamon colour trees that only grow in bariloche. malaya had calmed down by that point and we had a lovely time walking the path through the woods.
on the boat ride back there was a draw and guess who won a free keychain......holla if your name is andrea. too funny that i won somethig. the funny part was trying to listen for my number in spanish.
i should mention that all the tours we have taken here are entirely in spanish. this makes for an interesting day.
day 2 we took a tour up the mountain in another national park. the one way road is windy and difficult to drive...lucky for us we were Photo 4
arrayanes park on a bus. all day we would make short stops and take picutres of the scenary. it was such a nice day. malaya napped on the bus and was in a good mood all day. this was such a relief for us becuase the day prior was not so great. at the end of this tour up the mountain we stopped and saw the melting glaciers. there were a few pieces that broke off but i missed seeing all of them. oh...we got to see a condor bird flynig which most people were very very impressed about. then we waited 2 hours for the rest of our group to return to the bus...yes you heard right 2 hours. some prick and his 3 prick friends went for a long walk in the bush and completely ignored our timing.
today we took a half day tour which was okay. we stopped at a few places to go shopping and you could tell the tour bus driver must have had a side deal going with these places. i wasn´t interested in any of those places. the only great thing we did today was take a cable car up a mountain to catch a view. it was spectacular. on the way down i had a full on panic attack becuase malaya was squirmy and i didn´t really want her to fall to her death. i dont like heights as it is. all i can say about cable cars up mountains with a baby is never again.
that is it so far for today. we are about to head into town and take a tour. we still haven´t hit a restaurant yet. i have been having way too much fun cooking dinners at our hotel apartment.
oh and my stupid cold has got worse. i think it is this cold air that aggravated it. now i have one dose of dayquil left. i shall have to hit a farmacia today and act out my cold symptoms.

Chocolate
Bless that young man and his chocolate. Must try that myself the next time I'm in the Mall........:)) Andrea, sounds like you are seeing lots of the countryside and certainly getting 'off the beaten track' is great. So good to see Mark standing on two feet, up and about. What a wonderful way this is to be with you as you travel the world.........xoxoxo
