We escaped the city for the weekend again. This time we travelled three and a half hours north of BA into the province of Entre Rios and to the town of Gualeguaychu. Gualeguaychu is famous for its carnival weekends in January and February but, being October, we had to settle for tranquility and 28 degrees of sunshine. It was great. We stayed in the Hotel Berlin where they were unbelievably friendly and helpful. We had hoped to cross the border into Uruguay to visit Frey Bentos but the bus times were not great for a day trip. Instead we walked alongside the river, sunbathed on a beach park, feasted on fish (dorado and boga were great, pati wasn't, and the surubi are escaping the fisherman right now, a shame as that's our favourite), took a river ... read more

Oh, how could I anything but love the Gaucho culture? Alright well, I guess that I should first explain for everyone exactly what constitutes gaucho culture! Basically it is the local version of cowboy culture. The men work on estancias and have a long history in the country. They are know to be hard workers and to know everything about the land, tracking, local wildlife, horses, and of course raising the some of the best beef in the world! The entire program spent the day on an estancia close to Victoria in Entre Rios. It was one of the most gorgeous places that I have been in this part of the country. I tend to start missing hills and mountains most of the time when I look at a landscape around here, but this was an ... read more

On friday I met up with Ben Chinn´s parents at their nice ass hotel in the Recoleta in Buenos Aires. They fed me the buffet breakfast that was offered at the hotel. (It was delicious) Then they got me lunch. Afterwards me and Ben´s mom went to the Buenos Aires opera house for a tour. I mean I probably wouldn´t have gone on the tour if it wasn´t offered to me. But it was fairly exciting. As exciting as a tour of an opera house can be. I left from Buenos Aires on the 7:31 bus for Gualeguaychú, not to be confused with the 7:35 bus or the 7:37 bus. It was confusing to me, but eventually I found the right bus and we promptly left at 7:51. I got to Gualeguaychú having absolutely no idea ... read more

Just returned back to Santa Fe yesterday after a few relaxing days at Martin´s Family´s holiday appartment in Maria Grande Thermal Baths! We left Santa Fe on Friday for the 1&1/2 hr drive east through a tunnel under the Parana River, and through the town of Parana in the Province of Entre Rios (translation - Between Rivers - as the Province lies between Parana and Uruguay rivers). Then we passed many sunflower, soja and wheat fields. I´m constantly reminded of Australia - the southern cross, vast plains, eucalypts, jacaranda and even bottle brush trees! Oh, and the heat! The Maria Grande Hot Spring Resort is quite new, and appartments are still being built. If anyone is coming this way for a holiday, the Defagots are renting one of their cute little appartments for a meagre ~$25 ... read more
