Sunset over the town of Puerto Madryn
After just over a week in Buenos Aires it was time to get out before I got stuck and see some of this country. Was on my way to do a spanish course in Bariloche and thought that I´d stop over for a few days in a town called Puerto Madryn. My main aim of coming to this town was going to the nearby Peninsula Valdes National Park, which is the place where Orca come and beach themselves in hope of catch a sea lion for dinner. Sounds all a little morbid but it is nature at rawest and the chance to see Orca doing this was too much for me to pass up. The town of Puerto Madryn is based on the Atlantic Ocean, not much of a swimming beach and way too cold for any kinda frolicking, but still great to be back near the big blue. The town itself was nothing to write home about, but pretty chilled and relaxed. I hooked up with 3 American lads who were hiring a car the following day to head to the national park, their main aim was to see Orca as well so I jumped on board. They were

nice guys but very American so they provided quite a lot of entertainment for me during the day, most of it I had to enjoy silently as I was not sure that they would see the funny side of what I was laughing at. After a 2 hous drive from town through country side that could have been Western Australia minus the red dirt and kangaroos (you know lots of flat land with low lying shrub and a lot of nothing) we arrive at Punto Norte. This is the place where the sea lions are hanging and the Orcas are apparantly prowling and a shiteload of tourists - I was kinda hoping for a little bit more of a personal experience but quickly realised that I was dreaming! We did try to obtain that personal experience by walking around from the point a little more and down towards the beach until we were discovered by the ranger and consequently sent back to the masses. So 4 hours passed and we waited patiently for nature to arrive, it was strange to be on the other side of eco-tourism and have people say to you 'you should of been here 3 days

Punto Norte and the sea lions
ago when there were 8 Orcas going crazy for sea lions´....yeah yeah...make mental note not to do that to poor tourists again. We did manage to get some orcas off in the distance playing around but unfortunately not hungry for baby sea lion on that day. Wasn´t actually sure if I wanted to see the Orca munching on a cute baby sea lion anyway...so enjoyed the day for what it was...hanging out in the sun near the beach, watching sea lions do what sea lions do, seeing my first armidillo (crazy kinda ant eater thing with a hard outer shell), taking in the sunshine and laughing at the Americans!
