So my first port of call is the wonderful city of Buenos Aires. Not really sure what to expect after getting off the plane after approximately 26 hours in transit. Thinking that my extremely limited spanish is going to add to the experience and my thoughts are just get in a taxi and make it to the hostel and go from there. Manage to get a bus and spend the next 4 hours trying to get through the city to the hostel, surely there is a much better way to do this I am thinking, but it is giving me the chance to see part of the city. Actually a lot of a chance as we are stuck in a traffic jam that goes for miles and I am thinking that there must be an accident or something....but no this is just how it is. For the next week I explore this great city, mainly of foot and the subway avoiding the buses as they are way too scary and god knows where I will end up. So many different areas to hang out in, all with their own special feel and vibe, but overall the city has a great

feel and I love it. Sundays are my favourite day here when the markets in Recoleta and San Telmo are on, to me it´s like a festival every week with market stalls galore, buskers and bands everywhere, people hanging out drinking in the bars and cafes, eating ice-cream and enjoying the sunshine. Palermo to me is a mixture of Brunswick St and Chapel St in Melbourne, a good mix of the toffy and a more alternative feel, again full of cafes and bars and more market stalls. The centre is madness as far as the traffic goes and contains the world´s widest road, an obelsiek, loads of shops selling leather goods and the latest fashions, people everywhere and beautiful architecture. There is a port here as well which I think is still under construction as far as the restaurants etc go, some nice places to eat but the surrounds are still a little run down but no doubt will change soon. The cemetary in Recoleta is a grand show of the decadence by the rich of the city. Huge monuments which are graves, most of them allow people to walk down stairs to different levels and they also have alters

inside that are constantly maintained with flowers and gifts. They would be dedicated to a family and some of them would hold maybe between 5-10 coffins inside and some were made completely of marble and many had statues. I was shocked by the extravagance of it all and could see that no expense had been spared with most of them. The locals here are very hip and into looking good, not many overweight people to be seen in these streets, they are fashion conscious, they are quite short and I am standing a head above them quite a lot of the time, love their football (soccer to you Aussies), love the nightlife, eating lots of steak, drinking lots of good cheap wine, dancing the tango or salsa, showing passionate signs of effection in public, getting up late and going to bed late, being social and seems basically having a good time - I ask what´s there not to like about a place like that?
