We arrived in Buenos Aires on Friday morning (8th March) exhausted after the 12.15 hour flight, though I now feel as though we can't complain as we have already met travelers who have spent much longer than that on a bus, (we will be joining them soon!). After checking in we went straight out to orientate ourselves walking up to the Plaza de Mayo where the city cathedral and Casa Rosada are located, this is where President Kirchner has her offices and the balcony to the left is where former presidents including Juan Peron and Evita would have preached to the masses. We then went on to the lovely new Puerto Madero area made up of 5 dicques lined with trees and cafes, lots of parakeets around pretending to be pigeons, this area now has some of the most expensive real estate in Buenos Aires. Later we walked up a lovely pedestrianized area eating ice cream and saw our first street tango on the way to plaza San Martin. Second day we went to the recoleta cemetery famous for its grand crypts and tombs it feels like you are walking around streets because of the scale of them. We then walked

through public gardens (check out the photo of the flower sculpture, it closes its petals at night). Third day for me was the highlight of Buenos Aires, the street market in San Telmo, antiques, crafts, music, street food and a great atmosphere, I wish you could smell the wood smoke and chorizo cooking. From here we walked on through La Boca to see the stadium and brightly coloured houses which were decorated by the dock workers using left over paint, we walked back to the hostel via plaza de mayo to see the cathedral which was also very impressive. Fourth day we went to some more public gardens, including botanical and Japanese sections, then walked to Palermo Viejo a lovely old part of Buenos Aires. I can see why they call this city the Paris of South America, glad we decided to start our journey here.

Very jealous!
It all sounds wonderful. Missing you at Sandybrook. Have been snowed in at home without electricity for 2 days, so sunshine in your pictures is lovely to see.
