Beach!
This was one afternoon that it was quite cloudy and windy. No lo puedo creer!!! Which means, "I can't believe it!" I can't believe that I am planning my going away dinner, and packing, and planning out my last few days here! Time has flown by!! BUT, I am soooo ready to come home. I can't wait to step off of that plane in MEMPHIS, TN!! Nothing makes you appreciate all the small small things about home like being away from it all for 5 months!!!
So, besides thinking nonstop about seeing everybody for the first time in almost half a year, I've been enjoying my time here. Like I mentioned in my last post, we went to Mar del Plata, which is on the coast of Argentina. We had a pretty good time, but I must say, it was unlike any beach trip I've ever had. It really made me appreciate ol' faithful... the Gulf Coast!
The trip itself started off rather, well, not good. We planned to leave the house, by way of taxi, an hour before our bus was supposed to leave. Well, after traffic and us inevitably being 15 minutes behind schedule, we BARELY made it to the bus. And when I say barely, I mean
the ticket counter had to radio the bus driver to tell him to wait on two foreign girls! Our luck. Unfortunately, that was the least of our problems. Also like I said before, we were supposed to be staying at the apartment of a friend of ours. We got to Mardel and found the apartment ok, but when we got there, the problems started. First, we couldn't figure out how to turn on the Argentine version of the hot water heater. It's a lot different, but I won't bore y'all with that. So, after several phone calls to Mirtha, the owner of the apartment, and still getting nowhere, she called the super. While we were waiting on the super, we also discovered that the toilet wouldn't flush. So, the super arrives, and after 20 minutes of babbling on in Spanish, she informs us that there will be no hot water, something was broken, and the toilet won't flush, something else was broken. In other words, we wouldn't be able to stay there if we were planning on bathing/using the bathroom. And so began our hopeless search of a hotel at 11:00 pm on a Thursday night, which consisted of Sarah
and I wandering the streets, stopping by every hotel and asking if they had any rooms available. We were quickly informed that there was an international film festival in town, so most of the hotels were booked... PERFECT! And, might I add, it was FREEZING and I was wearing shorts! Fortunately I had brought my trusty Ole Miss sweatshirt (which you will see in many of the photos as the cold was unexpected and I just happened to bring it). After a couple hours, we decided to call it a night, got something to eat, and returned to the broken apartment with the plan of waking up early to start again. Surprisingly enough, we did just that. Fortunately, with much more luck this time. We went to the tourism office and the woman knew of a hotel that had rooms, so we went there immediately. Luckily it was a really nice hotel and we got to check in right away. With that major detail finally taken care of, we were free to enjoy the beach on what was one fine day. So, we did. Anyway, the rest of the trip went quite smoothly, thank goodness, and we got back to
Buenos Aires yesterday afternoon. I'll post some pictures from the trip. I didn't take many, since there wasn't much to take pics of. It's quite strange the city of Mar del Plata. I think it's best described as a city that just happens to be on the coast. There are no resemblances of what we consider a typical "beach town". Also, nothing is actually ON the beach. There is a 8 lane highway, of sorts, that separates everything from the beach. This, I thought was weird. But, it was a beach all the same. So, we got some sun, listened to the waves, and got a little taste of summer. All in all, it was nice.
As for the next 4 days, I will be doing some last minute souvenir shopping, and packing. That's pretty much it. I am still trying to figure out where I want to go on my last night here, but wherever we go, I'm sure it will be fun.
Well, I hope y'all enjoyed this little blog, as it will be my last! I still can't believe it! I just want to say thank you to all of y'all. I definitely had my
restaurant on the water
We actually ate there, and it was terrible. Too bad. But, I just had to eat at the only restaurant that was on the water! doubts about staying at first, and I never would have been able to go through with it if it hadn't been for all of y'alls love and support. It really means a lot to me to have so many people that I know love and care about me, and that are rooting for me! And, being away has only made it that much more clear how lucky I am!
I hope everyone is well, and I can't wait to see y'all!!
BESOS a todos!!!!!!!!! (kisses to everyone)
