La Boca
All of the buildings in the neighborhood are painted bright colors. It's so beautiful. These are the buildings that you often see in pictures of Buenos Aires. Hello hello,
I haven't written in a while, so I figured I should give y'all a little update on what's been going on down here. Not much has happened since my last post, so don't expect a thrilling entry.
Well, I finished my intensive Spanish course. The grading scale here is 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, and I am happy to report that I got a 10 in the class. I was pretty proud of that. That class ended on July 19th, and then we had a week off until our semester began on July 28th. I didn't do too much during my week off. I planned to travel, but due to a few hiccups with my financial aid disbursement, the traveling had to be put on hold. But, I still enjoyed my vacation. Lots of rest and plenty of socializing, two things I'm pretty good at.
We had orientation at the University on Monday, July 21st. It was pretty boring, and filled with stuff I already knew since I've been here for over a month, but informative as well. I was overwhelmed at how many exchange students there are at the University. There are
over 300 students from all over the world that are doing an exchange at the University of Belgrano! Much more than I expected. Of course, there are tons from the States, but also from England, France, Russia, Germany, China, Japan, Sweden, Italy, and many many more. It's so neat.
Last Monday, we started classes. My schedule is as follows: Mondays from 3 to 7, Tuesdays from 5 to 7, and Wednesdays from 3 to 5. And that's it! I've never had a schedule this easy, and am wondering what I will be doing with all of my free time! But, I'm sure I won't have a problem finding things to do. Anyway, my classes are great. In addition to taking my Spanish class, I am also taking two other classes. "Tradiciones y Culturas" is a class, taught in Spanish, about all of the traditions and cultures of Argentina. I think this will be an extremely interesting class, and also help my Spanish a lot. Then, I have an English class titled "The Latin American Role in a Context of Economic Globalization". I think that class will be pretty interesting as well. The title is pretty self-explanatory, and as I
My Street
I just wanted to give y'all an idea of where I live. This is a picture of the street I live on. I like it because it's a quite street, but there is a busy street only one block away. I love the location. It's perfect. said before, it's taught in English. Not much more to say about it. All in all, I am pleased with my professors and the classes, and I think I will have a pretty great semester.
This coming weekend, I am planning to go to Mendoza, Argentina. It is like the Napa Valley of Argentina. It's where a lot of the Malbec wine is made, and it's supposed to be absolutely gorgeous. I am looking very forward to that, and hope to have lots of pictures to post when I get back.
Last night, Eli had a cocktail party for Juan here, at the house. It was a "going away" party for Juan. I'm not sure if all of you know, but the couple I am living with is planning to move to Germany. They are trying to get all of the papers situated, so Juan is leaving on August 18th, and whenever Eli's papers are finalized, she will join him. Obviously, Sarah and I will still be living here, but Eli's sister will take over their share of the house, and also take care of all of the "landlord" type things. I am very sad that they are
To my house
When you enter the door to my house from the street, this is what you see. There is a narrow walkway to a gate, and beyond that our door is on the right. Then there is a small patio, and the door to the house. I don't have pictures of that yet, but I will post those soon. going, but I know it's something they are looking very forward to. But, I will keep y'all updated on that situation. Anyway, the party was great. I got to meet a lot of Juan and Eli's friends. I think we all had a pretty good time.
I am posting a few pictures from some random places I've visited over the past few weeks. There aren't many, so don't expect much. We had a bus tour of the city at orientation, so I got to see a few places I haven't been. There are a couple pictures from the neighborhood of Boca. It is an incredibly poor neighborhood, but it is so beautiful, and a huge tourist spot. Unfortunately, it was raining the day we visited, so the streets were empty, but usually there are tango dancers and various performers entertaining the tourists lining the streets. I will definitely go back on a prettier day, and hopefully have some better pics to share with y'all. Also, my friend KC and I went to the Rural Exposition that is in town. It was pretty neat. Lots of livestock and horses and things like that. There were "gauchos" everywhere, which are pretty
Still going to the house
This is just past the gate. Our door is on the right, and the door straight ahead belongs to the neighbor. Many of the houses here are set up like this. It's so interesting to me. much Argentine cowboys. It was very interesting to see all of the animals and the local "farmers".
That's about all I have to report on for now. I hope to have lots more pictures and stories to share after this weekend.
I love y'all and hope everybody is doing well.
