Carol and Bill arrived yesterday after their journeys to Tierra del Fuego.

I had a wonderful weekend hanging out with them in Buenos Aires. On Saturday, we went to the Plaza Italia on the 95 bus. We took a ride in a horse drawn carriage around the park, then went to the Japanese garden. It was lovely. We then walked to a little Italian restaurant nearby and had a late lunch. It was a cute place and the food was good.

We came home and rested, then Cacho, his son Javier and wife, Beti, Tibor and Maria and I all went out for dinner. We started out by driving to a place a bit out of the city for traditional Parilla. It was too crowded, so we came back into the city and found another good place. The food was excellent and it was very reasonable.

There’s starting to be less and less meat in the city, because the farmers are protesting a tax that the government wants to raise on exports. The farmers are not shipping any produce or meat to the city. This is called “El Paro.” There have been lots of

It’s Carol and Bill’s last day. After breakfast, we headed off in different directions. Carol went to San Telmo and Bill and I went to the Costanera to the Reserva. We rented bicycles for a few pesos and rode around the Reserva. It was wonderful - not too hot. The only bad thing is that I turned in front of him and he couldn't stop since the bikes didn't have brakes -- thus I knocked him down, and he scraped his knee. I felt terrible! Later we went to a little restaurant in Puerto Madera for lunch, then took a cab back where we met up with Carol. Cacho drove them to the airport. I was sad to see them go. Tibor and Maria left as well. All the comings and goings are wearing on me a little. It was great to see Carol and Bill though!

This restaurant was full of funny slogans, some in Spanish, some in Italian, some in Latin.

We rented these bikes for a few pesos an hour. Unfortunately, they didn't come with brakes, which turned out to be a problem.

The knee has healed!!!
Dear Catherine: Thanks for the pictures....the knee is fine! We are told that the farmer's strike is over and all is well. Is that true? I keep telling people about the beauty and energy of Buenos Aires. We want to come back. Soak up that beauty and energy! Bill
