Tango in the streets
This was taken in Florida Street on a Saturday afternoon. There is such a strong cultural emphasis here in Buenos Aires, with it's many museums, theatres and street performers. I have now been to the theatre 4 times! A teacher recommended a 'alternative' theatre and I have got to say it has got to be the coolest place ever, it's situated in what used to be an old warehouse. The first show I saw was a mix of acrobatics and dance, it was fabulous, the colours, the music and as for the acrobatics...wow! it was held on one of the outside stages, ahhh open air theatre! I also went to a show soley performed by blind actors, you are led (literally) into a theatre which is in complete darkness, I mean you cannot see a thing, to be honest it was a bit scary as you feel as though you have no control. The whole performance is in darkness, you can hear conversations (most of which I didnt understand but I got the general idea) and when they argued it was quite scary. The actors move around amongst you, so you never know where they are going to be, there are also smells, a scene situated in an office (you hear
Street Grafiti
Me and my mate Che! typewriters) smells of coffee, another scene set at a beach actually smelt of the sea, and in the thunder storm you could actually feel the rain. It was really intense experience, fantastic. I also saw a tango 'extaveganza' at the theatre ...... which was in a more convenvential theatre, hoverever the performance was no less amazing, they danced with such grace and precision, the height the women can kick their legs...... I have been tempted to take a couple of tango lessons but just never got round to booking anything! I know I'll have some regrets on this trip and I think that may be one of them but I also know I cant do everything!
I have now finished my Spanish course, and to be honest I'm glad, I found it quite tough at times, I understood what I was being taught but found it frustrating when they explained things in Spanish when my vocabulary was so limited. However, I'm really glad I did it as I know now so much more than when I started. Today I had a conversation with a taxi driver and asked a waiter to make up a sandwich of my choice, so
La Boca
This place is certainly bright! feeling quite chuffed with myself! I would never have been able to do that when I arrived. I will continue to study from my text book and put into practice what I have learned. I'm also a lot more confident at giving it a go now.
On a boat trip down the river from Tigre, we stopped off at a camp site (to be honest we didn't really have a clue where we'd end up!) there was only one restaurant which charged a set price. There was no menu and when they began to bring out the food it was clear that it was mostly meat......... and I was starving! the alternative was dry bread rolls and a bit of lettuce and tomato, so I thought I'd give it a go! and I have to say it was delicious. There was some sausage which I didnt like, some crispy pork which I loved and of course steak which was so tender. I still go for the veggie option when I can but I must admit last night I went to a local restaurant that was highly recommeded for it's steak and it was fabulous and cost just under 4
Casa Rosa
The is their main Government building pounds! and as for the wine here.....mmmmm
On Saturday night I was invited to a house party of some friends of a couple of Canadian guys staying at the hostel.... oh my gosh, it was the coolest party ever, it was on top of a roof terrace and they had 3 live bands playing, the music was a great mix, lots of people danced, there were mostly Argentinians there with a handful of Americans it was such a great atmosphere. We got back to the hostel as 8.30am! wicked wicked night, I kept having to pinch myself to make sure I was really there!
My Patagonia tour starts tomorrow, with the 1st day in Bs As, I'm so exited, I really cant wait to get out of the city and see some nature, although Bs As is great, it's still a city. I'll certainly be glad to get away from the traffic and polution which are probably the only things I dislike about the city that dosent sleep!
