Flowering Grasstree Spike
This is a very early flowering spike, in full flower it is almost fully covered in yellow petals. In times gone by the flowers were soaked in water to make a sweet drink by the local Aboriginal people. They were also used in direction finding as the flowers would appear first on the warmer side that was exposed to more sun (north) than the cooler, southern side.
