Famous Yongkang Beef Noodles ...
... there seem to be a lot of "famous" restaurants in Taipei, and the Taiwanese appear to love lining up for them. I think we learned our lesson when it comes to "famous" restaurants in Asia while lining up at Sushi Dai, so have tempered our expectations. We actually didn't plan on coming here, but stumbled upon it while in the area, finding it to have only a short wait, as it was outside peak hours.
The pork rib rice you see on the left was overly salty, though some tomato undertones did offset it. The dish's saving grace was how tender the ribs were. The beef noodles fell well short of their billing, though it did have some positives - the noodles were nice and chewy and the beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, with that luscious gelatinous texture that marks a nicely-braised piece of beef. The broth itself was fairly disappointing - not spicy at all, and incredibly bland given the rich, thick appearance of the broth. We tasted some salt and a hint of spice, but little else.
