History: After the first Greek settlers arrived in the 1880s, they joined the recently arrived Russians In 1892 to form St. Spiridon parish which had a trilingual priest. Their church opened at 817 Lakeview Avenue. The Greek community grew & they decided to build their own church on Yale Ave North & Thomas St which was completed in 1921. ( Discord over the relative role of clergy & laity, & the use of Greek and English in services ultimately split the parish & a new parish, Church of the Assumption, was formed in 1939.)

This album features several historic churches in Seattle. St James Cathedral: The need for a cathedral in Seattle arose in 1903 when the bishop of the then Diocese of Nesqually/Nisqually, moved the Episcopal see from Vancouver, Washington to Seattle.
