Largest book in the world.

Golden Temple Monastery contains the largest book in the world. Each of these 729 white structures each house a huge tablet with the entire story of Buddha's teaching on each side. Thus, there are 1458 "pages" carved in the bronze tablets all written in the original language. Monks memorize and authenticate the teachings as they rise in monk-hood. Incredibly humbling.

Another early a.m. flight as we left Bagan and now in Mandalay. Mandalay airport is the largest in Burma and the only one that has long enough runways for internatitonal flights. It was just a 25 minute flight from Bagan. Translation of "Mandalay" is "pleasant plain". 1 M population but 6 M in the region.
