The eternal flame at Zorastrian Fire Temple

Hard to see with the silly reflection but that's the eternal flame. Those beds have been burning since 470AD. Though this temple firmly claims that we didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the world's been turning. In fact its travelled around Iran for the last 1600 years and has never been put out. Count the eighties song references in this caption :)

Yazd has a very precise claim to fame - the oldest continually inhabited place in the world. Folks have been hanging around here for more than 3000 years, though the actual city of Yazd eventuated only 1900 years ago.
