We returned to Russian Gulch State Park on a foggy day to hike deep into the magnificent redwood forest with its glorious expanse of ferns carpeting the base of the trees. Backpacking by Car

When my husband, Phil, and I decided to schedule a driving trip to Yosemite for a series of day hikes, I thought we should also arrange a visit and hike with a friend who lives north of Santa Fe. Our Yosemite visit would be mid-September, but our friend wasn't available until the end of October.
