The Evils of Hitler are More Apparent on the Lower Floor

When the tour took us downstairs the abuses and atrocities of the Nazis were openly on display. Having been to Dachau on several occasions I was only shown one side of Hitler and his henchman. The exhibits on the upper level weren't intended to glorify or justify any of those murderers, but in retrospect I suspect they were meant to show that these people were human beings. When they weren't plotting mass murder, invading neutral countries or planning their Aryan agenda, they too took time to relax in the country, played with their dogs, and entertained visitors. Over the years I've become so used to seeing the Nazis as almost supernatural evil villains, that learning they could act like normal people came as a shock.
