Redonda

No, it is not the Prudential Rock – it is Redonda. It lies between Montserrat & Nevis. It is one mile long and 1,000 feet high. Phosphates were mined here from 1865 to 1914. Believe it or not 100 people worked on the island using two-bucket cable cars so the weight of up-going load was balanced with seawater. There were even houses and a wharf on the top. In looking at it, not quite sure how they ever approached it as it appears formidable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks in St. Martin. We traveled between the Dutch and French side, but the French side definitely had the added benefit of great wine, baguettes, cheeses and coffee (this cruising life is full of sacrifices).
