August 24th 2006 Dusk was settling over Fiji as the plane descended from the clouds last night, so I only had shadowy glimpses of Viti Levu, the main island. The first thing I heard when I stepped off the plane was dozens of birds. The next thing I heard was musicians singing a welcome song. Between that and the warm, humid air, I arrived at customs with a big grin on my face.
